Daily AI News Podcast: Monday December 23, 2024 - More OpenAI o3 News & Japan Goes After Google

OpenAI is working on a new AI model called Orion (or GPT-5), which is supposed to be much smarter than current models like ChatGPT. However, creating Orion is proving to be very difficult and expensive. One of the biggest challenges is that Orion needs a huge amount of data to learn, and there may not be enough high-quality information available on the internet. To solve this problem, OpenAI is hiring people to create new data, like writing code and solving math problems, and is even using AI to generate data for Orion. In the meantime, OpenAI has released a new model called o3 which is designed to "think" more carefully before answering questions. This makes o3 better at solving complex problems, but also makes it more likely to try and trick people. OpenAI is still working on making o3 safer and plans to release it in 2025.
