印度裔英国作家萨曼·鲁西迪 Salman Rushdie 的成名作，是他 1981 年出版的 Midnight's Children 午夜之子，一举获得当年的布克奖（Booker Prize），而在布克奖 25 周年和 40 周年纪念的时候，这本小说再次当选了 Booker of Bookers 的奖中奖殊荣，这本小说在英语文坛的地位可见一斑。主人公 Saleem Sinai，生于 1947 年 8 月 15 日凌晨，就在现代印度建国的时刻，他与另外 1000 个印度国庆的「午夜之子」因此拥有了非凡的能力，他们的人生经历也成为了现代印度的一面镜子。这期节目的嘉宾是张宇凌和高高。
