Este es uno de los grandes relatos de Daniel Defoe, y presenta algunas características interesantes del Romanticismo. En esta época, los fantasmas y espíritus literarios estaban mucho más ligados a las tragedias personales que al espanto y el horror que podría inducir en las gentes.
