Today’s first case follows a shocking “family affair” murder that is headed back to court. Jeffrey Spence is accused of gunning down his daughter Caitlin’s drug dealer boyfriend, Kirby Carpenter, in a deadly plot that prosecutors say he carried out with Caitlin and her mother. After a dramatic mistrial fueled by Caitlin’s testimony against her own father, a new trial is set for 2026, where jurors will decide if Spence really pulled the trigger in a crime that involved hidden gold, deleted security footage, and a disturbing text about starting “Assassins, Inc.” Then Katie investigates a bizarre manhunt in Colorado that ended live on camera. Richard Applequist, an armed burglary suspect, was spotted walking casually into the background of a news broadcast and was arrested minutes later. He now faces a slew of felony charges.
