This episode features Dr Robert Carter and Dr Jonathan Sarfati. They discuss in detail many of the facts surrounding the famous trial of Galileo and dismiss many of the associated urban myths (many of which are intentionally propagated by skeptics). They also delve more deeply into the intellectual background in the centuries leading up to Galileo, Copernicus, and Newton. Galileo was politically naïve, which got him into a lot of hot water. He was also overconfident about his ideas, while his opponents (correctly) pointed out the flaws in his reasoning. Yet, he did his best and most enduring work during those years of house arrest. The history of scientific progress and how it relates to Christian history is well worth studying and this episode will not let you down.

Why did dinosaurs go extinct? Did you know that there are over a hundred theories by secular scientists for why dinosaurs died out? Did an asteroid strike cause the extinction of dinosaurs? Why doesn’t this theory work? How do biblical creationists explain the extinction of dinosaurs if dinosaurs and man once lived together?

In this episode, we look at even more ways God has engineered the genome to generate diversity. We look at mutations, epigenetics, and natural selection. God is the master engineer. He did not just create life; He designed life to robustly respond to the environment. He overdesigned living things so that they could withstand, so far, thousands of years of mutational accumulation. His designs were holistic, in that He accounted for what each kind would need in the future. He built redundancy in the genomes to ward off the effects of decay, but He also designed specific aspects of the genome to change via mutation.

Many creationists once proposed that the source of Flood waters was a water vapour canopy surrounding the earth above the atmosphere. But most modern creationists reject the model. A vapour canopy is not a direct teaching of Scripture, seems to contradict Scripture, and it would not have done what it was claimed to do.

How did all the animals fit on Noah’s Ark? How many animals were on board the Ark, and how did Noah take care of all of them? What did carnivorous animals eat on the Ark and after the Flood?

Creationists are often accused of arguing from ignorance when they insist God is responsible for the apparent design in nature. The design argument makes a case that certain features of nature are best explained by an intelligent cause. But a common criticism is that this arbitrarily inserts God as a placeholder to fill a gap in our knowledge, a gap which science will eventually explain, leaving God without any role. However, this is a caricature of the way design proponents really argue. Creationists infer divine design for sound reasons, not based on a lack of knowledge. In fact, atheists are often the ones who blindly assume the gaps will be filled with naturalistic explanations, regardless of the evidence, as this episode points out.

The question of what happened to Adam when he ate the ‘forbidden fruit’ has been debated for centuries. Was Adam’s death physical or only spiritual? Was it instantaneous or delayed? God promised that Adam would die if he disobeyed, but the Bible also says Adam lived for hundreds of years afterward. Which is right? The answer requires an understanding of the underlying Hebrew wording and a comparison of how those phrases are used elsewhere. Yet, answering this perplexing question also has very important ramifications for New Testament theology. The promise was that physical death would follow disobedience. This is why Jesus had to physically die to pay for sins.

According to the popular ‘gap theory’, the Genesis creation account can accommodate a history of millions of years in between the first two verses. But this attempt to squeeze millions of years into the Bible suffers from fatal flaws. The gap theory is inconsistent with its proponents’ own interpretation of Ezekiel 28. There are further problems with the gap theory as well, including its ad hoc suppositions, its placement of death before the Fall, its downplaying of Noah’s Flood, its violation of the Hebrew grammar in Genesis 1, and its opposition to Jesus’ view of Genesis. The Bible is clear—there is no gap!

The Bible does not name the pharaohs with whom Moses interacted. Which Egyptian king was confronted by the biblical plagues and defeated at the Red Sea? Evidential clues suggest how biblical history and Egyptian history might best align. In this fascinating discussion, Gary Bates and Keaton Halley of Creation Ministries International talk about the evidence for the timing of the Exodus, and they put forward their proposed candidates for the pharaohs ruling in Egypt during the Israelite Oppression and the Exodus. The synchronisms are tantalising!

Christians have wrestled for centuries on how to reconcile Egyptian chronology with a biblical one. Many fail to understand Egyptian culture at the time which is a key to understanding how they treated foreigners, for example, which would help us understand why Egypt is silent about the Hebrew occupation prior to the Exodus event. We need to look for other clues that might help us place the timing of the Exodus into Egyptian history. Other pharaohs in the Bible are named, which allows for a clearer alignment between these histories.

Old Testament scholar John H. Walton has argued that modern readers have misunderstood the true meaning of Genesis 1. Given its ancient Near Eastern context, Walton says the creation account is not about God making material objects, but merely assigning functions. On this basis he sees no conflict between Genesis and evolution. In this episode, Keaton Halley and Joel Tay offer reasons why both Genesis and other ancient texts do not support Walton’s interpretation. So theistic evolutionists should find no refuge in Walton’s claims.

Genesis Chapter 6 very clearly sets out the dimensions, purpose and shape of Noah’s Ark. British Museum curator Irving Finkel claimed that this legend was part of the Babylonian Atrahasis Epic, and that it predated the Genesis account by a thousand years and so was the original Flood story on which the Genesis account was based. Not so! The idea that the Judaean Jews concocted their own history during or after their captivity in Babylon, although also taught by many liberal Bible colleges and seminaries today, is absolutely incorrect.
