Using food isn't necessarily using positive reinforcement and using positive reinforcement isn't necessarily using food. Now, if you've tried using food and it didn't work for you, it could be that you weren't using the tool correctly, much like an owner brushing over mats or an owner giving a prescription diet, but still giving junk food. Understanding the tool and how the process works is how you get the results that you're looking for.
