Covered In Pet Hair - Episode 51 Cat School

In this episode, Isabel interviews Julie Posluns, Applied Animal Behaviorist and Founder of Cat School, an online training school where cats can learn fun and practical behaviors. Julie and Isabel play "Cat School" a game in which Julie imagines a typical day in a Pre-K class and swaps the kids out for cats. She tells Isabel what the cats would do if forced to adopt a school day as humans do. Unsurprisingly, the cats probably wouldn't be as cooperative as the kids. Despite cats' likely unwillingness to sit in a morning circle, Julie believes that all cats can benefit from training and enrichment, plus, she knows that training helps to strengthen the cat-human bond and can prepare our cats for real-world experiences. She also believes that online training is an excellent complement to in-person training, especially for cats. Don't miss this episode if you want to teach your cat some tricks, behavior modification, or have ever dreamt of walking your cat on a harness. Covered In Pet Hair - Episode 42 Tyson's Gift

It's not every day that a law enforcement officer, trained to seek out proof and follow the letter of the law, comes out with a book about how a special bond with his dog led him to a spiritual awakening, but, thankfully, Brandon Wainwright did just that. A police officer of over a decade, Brandon was never one to jump on a bandwagon, especially when it didn't ring true to him. He needed to see it, feel it, and believe it before endorsing anything in life. Then, he lost his beloved Tyson, a Chihuahua/Doxie mix and that devastating experience changed everything. In this episode, Isabel invites Brandon to put his police senses to the test during the first game, Did it Happen? K9 Edition. She recounts stories about police officers and police dogs taken from a website called www.DogTime.com. Brandon has to decide if the stories are true or false and, well, as a true pro, Brandon gets them all right. In the second game, Isabel gives Brandon one minute to share the most noteworthy revelations Tyson shared from the other side. If you're a non-believer, your limits will be tested. If you're a believer, however, you'll be nodding along with us as we discuss the complexities of a life lived by us "spirits having a human experience." Covered In Pet Hair - Episode 40 Keep the Tail Wagging with Kimberly Gauthier

It was such a joy to have the opportunity to chat with Kimberly Gauthier, the creator behind the Keep the Tail Wagging blog, which is about to celebrate its 10th year anniversary. Kimberly has done years of research on feeding dogs raw dog food and how to keep things simple. She recognizes that life is generally 'too expensive, too complicated, and too time-consuming' as it is, she therefore doesn't think raw dog food should be as well. In this episode, I ask Kimberly to rebut the reasons dog parents usually give when they explain why raw feeding is not for them. In an honest and straightforward way, Kimberly agrees with some of these reasons but gives excellent tips on ways around them. I also ask Kimberly to list the many ways in which pet parents can quickly improve their dogs' lives with minimal effort. She goes over the one minute I allotted in our second game, "Keep the Tail Wagging," but only because she was on a roll and I couldn't bring myself to interrupt her awesome suggestions.
