Ishani Bhoola is building an orchestra of young musicians to tour South Africa in July 2024. This project is called International Youth Orchestra Bridges and is a collaboration between the West Coast Youth Orchestra (South Africa) and the Waverley Ensemble (UK). It will bring together young musicians from the UK and South Africa, aged between 13 and 17, to form an international orchestra. The musicians will rehearse in their own countries and/or online, before coming together in South Africa in July 2024, to perform at venues in Cape Town, Pietermaritzburg, and Johannesburg. Ella is now in her third year of undergraduate studies with David Allen Moore at the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California. Noah Reitman has been assistant principal bass of the Vancouver Symphony since 2015 and is also currently the president of the Vancouver Musicians' Association. He also coaches bass and chamber music at Idyllwild Arts in California in the summers. He is also on the faculty at the VSO School of Music where he teaches bass lessons and coaches chamber music, as well as the Saint James Academy of Music. He and his wife Maggie are also the founders of Purple Mollusk Music, a label for their varied projects. He grew up in Los Angeles and began studying at the Colburn School with David Young at age 12. He continued his studies at the University of Michigan, where he studied with Diana Gannett, followed by Indiana University, where he studied with Lawrence Hurst. After that, he freelanced in New York while working towards a Professional Certificate from the Manhattan School of Music, and he was a bass fellow at the New World Symphony from 2012-2015. Bram De Man is a double bass luthier in Brussels, Belgium. After first studying as a bass player, at the age of 18, he was admitted to the Ghent Conservatory to study musical instrument making, graduating with a first-class distinction and receiving an honorary bequest for his research into D-violones and the early double bass. After these studies, he traveled throughout Europe to expand his knowledge and experience; from observing the Hungarian Tamburaški bass to studying historical instruments in Brescia, Cremona, Paris, Oslo, London, etc., working and learning in ateliers in Vienna, Berlin, and Brussels. After these years, he decided to move back to Belgium to open his shop in Brussels, keeping a close connection to Vienna as a second home and working place. Kenneth Knudson recently released an album titled Uummat which was inspired by working on the Western Greenland island of Uummannaq. Knudsen was exposed to the vast, calm and awe-inspiring natural surroundings, which were the first catalyst for a new set of compositions. Soon, a second incidence added a new dimension to the music. During a dinner with the leader of the local orphanage, Knudsen was invited to read from author Lise Andersen's book Uummat - Stories from the heart, a book documenting the personal experiences of neglect of children from the orphanage. Third, Kenneth encountered the rich Greenlandic folklore in the recently published Bestiarium Groenlandica - an illustrated handbook of mythical beings, spirits and animals.
