The term “criminal justice reform” has been hijacked to mean letting criminals out of jail. In reality, we need reforms to lock more of them up. I discuss some of the most gruesome crime stories that demand the need for numerous reforms, from juvenile laws and insanity pleas to tougher sentencing and pretrial holding. We need to fight these battles in the state legislatures and make sure Republican candidates are on board before they get our support in the primaries.
