At long last, the Gundam live action film produced by Legendary and distributed by Netflix supposedly begins filming this month of April 2026! The live action film has been a favorite topic of ours so we examine how the film and our expectations have changed over the years. Former Writer Brian K Vaughn (Y: The Last Man, Ex Machina) and director Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island) have been replaced by new writer/director Jim Mickle (Sweet Tooth). The announced cast consists (so far) of Noah Centineo, Sydney Sweeney, Michael Mando, Shiola Kutsuna, and Gemma Chua-Tran. Brian hopes for a successful adaptation in the vein of Super Mario and less of Avatar: The Last Airbender, while Isaac aims high with the latest Dune films. While the plot is under wraps, Brian bets on 08th MS Team or an original story, whereas Isaac holds firm it's a modified 0079 where the Gundam is replaced with AmeriMech, the USA's giant robot that fights with fists of justice. Plus, who is Sydney Sweeney playing: Lalah Sune, Fraw Bow, Aina Sahalin, or.... maybe Kuzco Al? In order to find out, we dispatch our man on the ground, Australian Isaac, to survey the filming and report back! https://deadline.com/2026/03/gemma-chua-tran-cast-netflix-gundam-film-1236766129/
Ep 1560155: Gundam Assemble Preview
On March 4, 2026, Bandai lifted the curtain on Gundam Assemble - the new Gundam-themed tabletop wargame coming October 2026! We're excited to build our armies and start playing, so we dive in and discuss the game mechanics, the MS selection in the Starter/Deluxe/Expansion sets, the ship scale, potential rules for larger battles (like A Baoa Qu!), and more! Plus, Isaac forgets how to pronounce Kshatriya and we ogle the Japanese colony model! We continue our quest to find the most evil looking Gundams but this time across all of the franchise's alternate universes! Will your favorite evil Gundam make the cut? Find out as we discuss the nature of evil, Isaac continues making baseball puns, Brian fails counting to five, Isaac sings two different renditions of "Tell Me Why," discuss what makes a Gundam a Gundam, and Isaac declares war on the moon. Ep 1540153: Mobile Fighter G Gundam Review Part 2
We finish our review of Mobile Fighter G Gundam with seats at ringside for the 13th Gundam Fight finals! As the Shuffle Alliance test their skills in the tournament, Isaac admires Wong's throne and roots for Ulube; we wonder if unlocked Gundams are considered attractive nuisances; George de Sand has his Summer of George; an exploding ring causes Brian to chant E-C-W! E-C-W!; the Grand Gundam exceeds Isaac's thiccness threshold; Master Asia embraces his inner Char omnicide; Paramore's Misery Business becomes our soundtrack for Rain vs. Allenby; we discuss the dangers of the mobile trace system on animals; and Ulube creates a lot of jobs. Ep 1530152: Urdr-Hunt & Endless Waltz @ Gundam Premiere Night
On January 18, 2026, the entire Colony Drop crew headed to our local movie theater for Gundam Premiere Night - a night which promised not one film, not a double feature, but an ultra rare TRIPLE FEATURE of Gundam films. With popcorn in hand, we watched all three offerings: MSG Iron Blooded Orphans Urdr-Hunt: Path of the Little Challenger, MSG Iron Blooded Orphans Wedge of Interposition, and Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz. Since Endless Waltz is a classic and no one in their right mind could dislike Wedge of Interposition, we spend most of this episode discussing Urdr-Hunt. We discuss Sunrise's penchant lately for putting its DVD extras at the beginning of the film, Wistario Afam's quest to create Las Venus, wives snoring, mobile armor's having PTSD, the identity of Lord N, the real color of Orga's suit, Sunrise's animation capability, and just what the hell Wufei was doing. Plus, Brian finally learns how to watch Gundam Wing!

Happy New Year, listeners! Join us as we crown our top five most evil looking Gundams of the Universal Century! Our evil picks span almost all the factions across the UC, including the Earth Federation, the Titans, the New Desides, Neo Zeon, the Crossbone Vanguard (version 2!), and even the Jupiter Empire! Plus, we go on the Turn X tangent, discuss the marketability of Gundam Mk-V rolling pins, and once again theorize about Dorel Ronah's revenge! Let's get evil!

Merry Christmas Eve to Colony Drop listeners worldwide! On this episode, we discuss and debate who did more damage to Zeon during the One Year War: Amuro Ray aka the White Devil, or Char Aznable aka The Red Comet. Isaac tallies their contributions throughout the war, from the Gundamjack all the way to A Baoa Qu, while Brian does some math concerning Amuro's effectiveness relative to other ace pilots. Ep 1490148: Mail Call #7: Nukes, Dimmer Switches, & Senators
We celebrate Thanksgiving 2025 aboard the King Space Pig by diving in to your listener comments! As we feast on turkey and various casseroles, we cover a myriad of topics including Mayu Asuka's broken phone, Dorel Ronah's implied revenge, the Earth Alliance's inability to use mirage colloid nukes, the grand failure of Zeon's Dolos carriers, Coordinator mental superiority, mobile suit dimmer switches and the Joey hypothesis, Shuji "The Huffer" Ito, Challia Bull's screentime in GQuuuuuux, Civil War history, winches and Jurassic Park, the Chimera Corps, the 2002 sci-fi anime RahXephon, the 1997 sci-fi film Gattaca, and much more! Plus, Isaac does a great Mayor Quimby impression!
Ep 1480147: Trapped in a Gundam Video Game
Having protagonists get trapped in video games has been a popular anime premise in recent years. What would getting trapped in a Gundam video game look like? Isaac takes us into the world of Kenji Everybody who is trapped in a Gundamized Final Fantasy via a mishap with a bottle of Ramune that leads to a jaunt across timelines with Gaia Gear technology and battles with AI. Brian takes a completely different path with Gundam Survivor which is essentially a One Year War trauma simulator that's equal parts MK Ultra, Battle Royale, and Hatchet. What kind of Gundam video game would you like to get trapped in (or trap someone in)?
Ep 1470146: Boom in the Pocket
In 1989's MSG 0080: War in the Pocket, Zeon's Lt. Col Killing orders Col. Von Hellsing to nuke the Side 6 colony known as Libot after the Cyclops team failed to destroy the Federation's new prototype Gundam via conventional means. As luck would have it, the Federation captured Von Hellsing's ship before the nukes could launch and spared Libot from annihilation. In this episode, we discuss what might have happened if Killing's plan to nuke Libot was successful. Brian sees this as an early version of Operation Stardust that inadvertently gives rise to a much earlier showdown between the Titans and Axis Zeon in the asteroid belt. Isaac sees an occupied Zeon with its people forced to choose a side, with factions like the Crossbone Vanguard, the Zanscare Empire, and the Jupiter Empire rising earlier. Plus, we wonder if AI and nanotech should qualify as WMDs; find out what happened to Lt. Col Killing; and argue about asteroid lasers and hot lava missiles! Welcome to Alfred's Nightmare!
Ep 1460145: The Gundam Credit Card
Would you sign up for a Gundam co-branded credit card? We sure would! We discuss all the perks and discounts that such a program should have, including the cards that already exist in Japan and Hong Kong! Isaac envisions a travel sweepstakes and an ace pilot leaderboard, while Brian demands Bandai complete the Gundam spending synergy circle. Plus, we discuss Kou Uraki's 0083% debt problems, the Nutcracker Squad out to get those who possess the SEED factor, and the Tomino-san credit rating agency. Ep 1450144: Mobile Fighter G Gundam Review Part 1
Join us at ringside of the 13th Gundam Fight as we review the first half of 1994’s Mobile Fighter G Gundam! As the Gundam franchise’s first alternate universe, this show had it all – love, anger, sorrow, abstract nanotech villains created to solve 1990’s environmentalism’s worst nightmare, and much more! Plus, in a shocking turn of events, Brian’s son allies himself with the Dark Gundam! Isaac continues his streak of baseball references before demanding more samurai motifs! Let’s get things started! Gundam fight all set! Ready? Go!!

Ep 1420141: GQuuuuuuX Review
We set our thrusters at maximum and head into the Zeknova that is Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX! After coming down from our Kira-Kira high, Isaac muses at Mash donating his leg and bemoans the lack of total Zeonic victory he was promised, while Brian is incensed at the continued pattern of bad parenting across the timelines and delivers a PSA on spray paint safety. Plus, we discuss the Zeon civil war, Char's need for a haircut, Shuji's true identity, and a cameo from Australian Isaac!
Ep 1410140: Headcanon Head Scratchers (aka Gunundrums) Vol. 1
We dive into those random topics about Gundam that never quite made sense to us to the point where we had to make up our own headcanon to fill in the blank. These are Gundam's headcanon head scratchers, or as Isaac calls them, Gunundrums! From light-hearted subjects like General Revil's age and part time gig as a mall Santa, or elite h4x0r Kira Jesus Yamato forgetting Athrun's phone number; to serious lore tidbits like the lack of Minovsky bombs and large capital ships, we lay all our Gunundrums out on the table. Plus, Brian unexpectedly earns a position with Blue Cosmos by inventing snow cone machine nukes! What are some of your Gunundrums?
Ep 1400139: New Gundam Settings
Stop us if you've heard this Gundam setting before: In the near future, humans have largely fled a ravaged Earth in favor of giant space colonies where they war amongst themselves using giant robots called mobile suits. We've been there and done that several times over - in fact we are doing it right now in GQuuuuuux! So let's think of something new: What are some fresh new settings that future Gundam series might explore instead? We discuss a wide range of ideas including the asteroid belt, black holes, Saturn, and Proxima Centauri, among others. Plus, we eulogize Stargate Universe, Isaac demands justice for Pluto, we discuss all the steampunk genres (who knew solarpunk is a thing?), and Isaac unleashes his inner armchair astrophysicist on black holes and entropy. Where would you set the next Gundam series? P.S. Gundam Trivia is confirmed for Anime Expo 2025 in Los Angeles, California! Come join us on Saturday, July 5, 2025, 12:30 PM - 1:20 PM, Room 402AB!
Ep 1390138: Top Five Ugliest Mobile Suits
We host an ugly pageant for mobile suits across the Gundam multiverse in order to crown the one true ugliest mobile suit of them all! From mobile suits with proportions that give you the ick, to Zanscare Empire amphibious mobile suits that leak, we spare no strain on our eyes to bring you this list. Plus, Isaac takes a firm stance on the color brown and identifies a new Mega Man X maverick named Karnage Kangaroo that was living in the Universal Century all along! "Nobody likes tentacles." - American Isaac, 2025
Ep 1380137: MSG 00 The Movie -A Wakening of the Trailblazer- Review
In 2010, Sunrise graced the world with the best Gundam film ever made: Mobile Suit Gundam 00 The Movie -A Wakening of the Trailblazer-. After five years of covering Gundam, we finally review this masterpiece to give it the credit it so rightfully deserves. So buckle up and join us aboard the Ptolemaios for the last time as Allelujah fights Waymo; zombie Ribbons takes a WWE chair shot; Setsuna grabs the Metal Cap and joins the Borg; and the T-1000 gets renamed the Extraterrestrial Living Metal Shapshifters. Someone should really check on the Azadistanis... Happy AFD, listeners!
