Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde kick off the podcast by reacting to the news that the Dartmouth Men's Basketball team is unionizing and yet another sign of college athletes eventually becoming employees of the school. It was teased in a pod last week and a full discussion on this topic has finally come: Could we ever see a college football draft that replaces the current chaos of recruitment? The trio weigh the pros and cons of a theoretical college football draft. Dellenger points out that the idea isn't as far fetched as it first sounds, hinting that it's come up in closed board meetings before. Wetzel proposes a high school combine and individual conference drafts. The three agree it's far off from ever happening but the current state of recruiting isn't sustainable for anyone. The three also react to the news that college football will FINALLY have helmet comms, tablets on the sidelines and a two-minute warning. While Wetzel is excited for the needed updates, Dellenger points out this could turn more traditional fans off as college football resembles the NFL even more. The three end the show discussing if they'd watch a Nick Saban-Bill Belichick type 'Manningcast' and share a story about a Kentucky school evacuation from fart smells:1:28 - Ripple effect of Dartmouth Men's Basketball team unionizing.9:40 - What if College Football got rid of recruiting?17:40 - Dan proposes a High School Combine and College Football draft34:10- Why employment brings it's own challenges for student athletes40:55 - Pat shares bitter recruiting story with his daughter42:15 - 'Connor Stallions Memorial Law' - Comms coming to helmets, tablets to sidelines, 2-minute warning added53:35 - Saban-Belichick football-cast? Wetzel makes fun of the 3-3-2-2-1 pitch and why the automatic byes for the Big Ten and SEC are the antithesis of American sports. Forde says it's bully ball and manipulation from the top two conferences. Dellenger says the conversations and proposal are here to stay.Wetzel ponders if the two automatic bids for the ACC and Big 12 is actually a win for both of those conferences. The trio debates if the proposal could even be a stabilizer for the conference and be an incentive for Florida State to stay long term. The trio then recap the biggest headlines from the NFL Scouting Combine and why two well-known internet conspiracies became talkers in Indy. Wetzel also shares a story about UNLV's head football coach riding a bull to inspire his team and recruits and wonders if other college coaches will resort to riding wild animals. The three end the pod with a 'People's Court' involving a 45,000 year old worm having babies in Russia and a Big Mac record that makes Ross nauseous.1:00 - 3-3-2-2-1 and 0 patience from Dan on new 14 team-CFP format pitch3:00 - The good, bad and ugly of the 14-team playoff proposal 29:15 - Would new 14-team CFP actually stabilize ACC?40:45 - Scouting Combine recap: Its the Olympics for bros and conspiracy central 52:10 - People's court: 45,000 year old worm has babies + Big Mac Man breaks his own record Subscribe to the College Football Enquirer on your favorite podcast app:🎧 Apple Podcasts🎧 Spotify🖥️ YouTube📢 Check out the Yahoo Sports podcast network or yahoosports.tv

Ep 564Latest NIL ruling might be final blow for NCAA & is court storming good or bad?

Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde kick off the podcast reacting to the latest court ruling in Tennessee that essentially seals the fate for the NCAA and it's inability to put guardrails on NIL. The trio believes there may be no more legal levers to pull for the NCAA to regulate NIL in college sports. Wetzel tries to find a legitimate issue with NIL other than school officials and coaches complaining about it.The trio then debate how out of touch the NCAA is with reality and why there could be potential for the top four football conferences to eventually break away from the organization. The crew also brings up Arizona State head football coach Kenny Dillingham's latest comments on why coaching college football is a dream job, not a dystopia, and why more people need to recognize that. The trio then debates potential punishments for court storming and if you can actually stop them. Ep 563New College Football Playoff format approved, future CFP models & what happens to Notre Dame?

Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde kick off the podcast analyzing the new approved format for the College Football Playoff, which will have five automatic qualifiers and seven at-large bids. There is already much discomfort from the SEC & Big Ten about the amount of automatic qualifiers, but we finally have an expanded 12-team playoff. The cast breaks down who wins in this scenario & why the top two conferences are already grasping to get more power.Where does that leave Notre Dame though? The private, conference-less university has been in the middle of the spotlight when discussing the new CFP format. In this new design and without a Power Five (or Power Four) conference to call home, if Notre Dame were ever to be a top-4 team to receive an automatic qualifier, they would forego the first-round bye for the fifth seed and take on likely a Group of Five qualifier.Afterwards, the guys debate why proposals for an additional two teams in the playoff is madness, and look back to how we got to this point where a 12-team playoff has been approved, and the CFP is already looking to blow up the bracket for a 14-team version before the first games have even been played. To close out the show, residents in West Virginia are hosting a candlelight vigil for a restaurant.1:00 - New 12-team CFP format has been approved15:04 - What happens to Notre Dame in the expanded playoff?28:34 - New 14-team CFP models are already being pitched59:20 - The People’s Court: A unique candle light vigil in West VirginiaFollow Dan @DanWetzelFollow Pat @ByPatFordeFollow Ross @RossDellenger🖥️ Watch this full episode on YouTubeCheck out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts Subscribe to the College Football Enquirer on your favorite podcast app:🎧 Apple Podcasts🎧 Spotify🖥️ YouTube📢 Check out the Yahoo Sports podcast network or yahoosports.tv

Ep 555College football’s biggest issues: is tampering real, will Charlie Baker make athletes employees & how far would you go for fried pickles?

Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde devote the entirety of today’s episode looking deeper into the key issues plaguing the world of college athletics at the moment.Starting off with transfer rules, the gang looks to a recent interview by Kadyn Proctor. The offensive lineman spoke on transferring from Alabama to Iowa, where he noted that Iowa was supporting him throughout his freshman year playing for the Crimson Tide. Was this tampering on Iowa’s part? While a tampering rule is in writing in the NCAA bylaws, coaches and agents have been working around it for years. As the crew examines the solution to tampering, Dan challenges that tampering isn’t a problem outside of college athletics.Meanwhile, there is an entirely separate can of worms in relation to the athlete/employee dichotomy. NCAA commissioner Charlie Baker has a new proposal, called “Project D1,” which is focused on beginning a conversation about legitimate athlete employment at the collegiate level. Whether it be collective bargaining or revenue sharing, Baker looks to hit the reset button. Ross breaks down the plan and how congress could address it, along with highlighting what the NCAA needs to do in order to get out of the transition with the least amount of damage. To close out the podcast, The People’s Court examines a pickle-y trade proposal in a Buffalo Wild Wings & Doritos is involved in the alcohol world now.1:00 - Did Iowa to Alabama transfer Kadyn Proctor engage in tampering?33:17 - Charlie Baker’s “Project D1" and the future of athletes as employees50:45 - The People’s Court: Pickle trade at the Buffalo Wild Wings?57:40 - Would you eat it: Doritos alcohol editionFollow Dan @DanWetzelFollow Pat @ByPatFordeFollow Ross @RossDellenger🖥️ Watch this full episode on YouTubeCheck out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts Subscribe to the College Football Enquirer on your favorite podcast app:🎧 Apple Podcasts🎧 Spotify🖥️ YouTube📢 Check out the Yahoo Sports podcast network or yahoosports.tv

After news broke last week that top portal safety Caleb Downs is transferring to Ohio State, the Buckeyes flipped top QB Julian Sayin from Alabama. Ohio State appears to be building up for a championship run next year and the fan expectations are starting to rise. With big shoes to fill, the biggest question on everyone’s minds is whether or not Kalen deBoer can recruit in the SEC.Washington filled their head coaching vacancy subsequently with Arizona head coach Jedd Fisch. Fisch helped turn Arizona into a 10-win program last year and is expected to bring some quick stability to Washington.Ohio State has been returning a lot of veteran players this offseason. It appears that the Buckeyes want to approach the offseason like Michigan and Washington did this previous season. In transfer portal news, former Washington State quarterback Cam Ward has decided to transfer to the University of Miami after declaring for the NFL draft. Ep 547College Football Playoff semifinals preview, Coach Prime speaks on FSU snub & FSU sues ACC

Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger & SI’s Pat Forde are back from the holiday weekend to dissect the latest from the ongoing saga in Tallahassee as FSU has sued the ACC over their grant of rights deal in order to leave the conference. The guys discuss how this move, if granted in favor of Florida State, would open the door for other ACC schools to leave, thereby crushing the conference.Meanwhile, Coach Prime gave his thoughts on Florida State not making the playoffs with an undefeated record and claimed that the CFP committee wouldn’t have left FSU out if he were the head coach there – a bold statement indeed. The guys dive into whether or not Deion Sanders would be enough of a draw to have gotten his team to the CFP bracket on his fame alone.Lane Kiffin impressed again this offseason by retaining his title of the ‘Portal King.’ The Ole Miss head coach, while publicly dissatisfied with the college football offseason, has continued to thrive in its increasingly messy conditions. In other transfer portal news, the NCAA is expected to review new proposals for the portal which include higher academic requirements and penalties for underperforming academic programs. The CFP semifinals are right around the corner, so the podcast breaks down the #4 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide against the #1 ranked Michigan Wolverines in the Rose Bowl and the #3 ranked Texas Longhorns taking the #2 ranked Washington Huskies in the Sugar Bowl.1:00 - FSU sues the ACC over grant of rights deal19:33 - Health of this year’s bowl games23:06 - Deion Sanders speaks on the FSU snub28:31 - ‘Portal King’ Lane Kiffin has the #1 transfer class32:57 - Newest transfer portal proposals?38:48 - Rose Bowl preview: #4 Alabama vs. #1 Michigan56:09 - Sugar Bowl preview: #3 Texas vs. #2 WashingtonFollow Dan @DanWetzelFollow Pat @ByPatFordeFollow Ross @RossDellenger🖥️ Watch this full episode on YouTubeCheck out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts Subscribe to the College Football Enquirer on your favorite podcast app:🎧 Apple Podcasts🎧 Spotify🖥️ YouTube📢 Check out the Yahoo Sports podcast network or yahoosports.tv

Ep 545Emergency podcast: Florida State is attempting to leave the ACC

Dan Wetzel & Ross Dellenger huddle together after news broke Thursday that Florida State is trying to get out of their grant of rights deal with the ACC in order to move to a new conference. FSU previously made a push to gain entry to the SEC last summer, but were not accepted. The school is now making a bigger push to leave after seeing programs in the SEC and Big Ten generate more revenue than them due to their lucrative deals. The SEC is seemingly the first conference that FSU will chase after, but the Big Ten could swoop in. Dan & Ross discuss whether or not the SEC even wants FSU and how the Big Ten is just trying to stack assets so they could end up making the push for the SeminolesIf Florida State is granted an exit from the conference, we could see the ACC crumble similar to the Pac-12. The guys debate which other schools could leave the conference & whether or not they would be better fits than FSU at a new destination. To close out the podcast, The People’s Court takes on a wild party at a taco bell.1:00 - FSU is attempting to leave the ACC19:24 - Can FSU get into the SEC?31:24 - Will the Big Ten pursue FSU?41:04 - How nervous should the rest of the ACC be right now?52:55 - Emergency People’s Court: Taco Bell editionFollow Dan @DanWetzelFollow Pat @ByPatFordeFollow Ross @RossDellenger🖥️ Watch this full episode on YouTubeCheck out all the episodes of the College Football Enquirer and the rest of the Yahoo Sports podcast family at https://apple.co/3zEuTQj or at Yahoo Sports Podcasts Subscribe to the College Football Enquirer on your favorite podcast app:🎧 Apple Podcasts🎧 Spotify🖥️ YouTube📢 Check out the Yahoo Sports podcast network or yahoosports.tv

Ep 544Who won National Signing Day, future bowl game tech & Jeff Traylor’s iced coffee bath

Dan Wetzel & Ross Dellenger kick off the podcast diving into the action stemming from this year’s National Signing Day. Per usual, Alabama & Georgia had good recruiting classes, while Florida has dropped significantly in the class rankings since early November. Ohio State and Ryan Day had a few awkwardly timed scares as Day had to leave a press conference to find out whether or not the Buckeyes were retaining a top recruit. The remains of the Pac-12 have found a new home for athletics outside of football and baseball. The West Coast Conference will be where Oregon State & Washington State sports will be hosted moving forward with the schools’ football programs still searching for their best possible option.UTSA and head coach Jeff Traylor were able to get a win in the Frisco Bowl over Marshall, leading to a classic reaction from Traylor after having a giant iced coffee poured over him — a new take on the Gatorade bath.Keen college football watchers may notice some upgraded technology in bowl games this week. Video tablets and in-helmet radios are getting their trial run in a handful of games before potentially being fully implemented into college football in future seasons. The podcast analyzes the move and examines why quarterbacks are so willing to enter the transfer portal for a new program. Quarterbacks know that they not only need to play, but they need to start, so when Ohio State couldn’t commit to McCord, he found a new home in upstate New York. The NCAA is heading into another round of waiver hearings after last week’s session. The guys discuss the latest deliberations around the transfer portal and highlight that we could be looking at a future where there aren’t any transfer restrictions moving forward.UCLA head coach Chip Kelly took some time in a postgame press conference to pitch his idea for the future of college football: Kelly believes that every program should be independent, with two 64-team conferences broken into Power Five and Group of Five.In other news, New Mexico State head coach Jerry Kill was not happy with the practice field restrictions that New Mexico’s administration put on his program.
