University of Minnesotas B.J. Omot to Enter Transfer Portal; Gophers Roster Could See Up to Six Openings

The University of Minnesota mens basketball forward, B.J. Omot, is set to enter the transfer portal next month. Omot, a redshirt junior, sat out the entire 2025-26 regular season due to a summer injury, but did play in two exhibition games. He has previously dealt with injury setbacks at California before transferring to the Gophers.

Omot is the second player with remaining eligibility planning to leave the program, following center Nehemiah Turner who departed midseason. This could leave up to six openings on the Gophers fifteen-man roster, including the four seniors wrapping up their careers: Cade Tyson, Langston Reynolds, Maximus Gizzi, and R.J. Spencer.

The team will wrap up its season in the College Basketball Crown tournament in early April, right before the portal swings open from April 7th through April 21st. Coaches will have plenty of work ahead to rebuild, but the portal window offers a fresh start for everyone involved.
