Students Recorded Their Final Moments Alive... _ The Case of MV Sewol

One of the most heartbreaking maritime tragedies in modern history unfolded when the ferry MV Sewol capsized in 2014, leading to the deaths of hundreds of passengers — many of them high school students on a field trip.
In the final moments before the vessel sank, passengers captured videos and sent messages documenting the chaos, confusion, and desperate attempts to follow instructions as the ship tilted and water flooded inside. Those recordings later became powerful evidence that revealed critical details about the timeline, crew response, and emergency failures.
This episode examines the sequence of events, safety protocol breakdowns, rescue efforts, legal proceedings, and the broader national impact of the disaster. We also explore how public accountability and policy changes followed one of South Korea’s most devastating maritime accidents.
