Ep 31Awakening Authentic Leadership Awareness with Leon VanderPol
As a coach, our own presence plays a significant role. Are we coming from authenticity within ourselves or are our ego-patterns leading the way? And how would we know? Each client looks for a relatable presence in the chemistry conversation. When our presence is anchored and authentic a client feels safe, and a relationship of trust is established instantaneously. The power of our authentic presence then facilitates our clients to open up and connect with a deeper reality, one they may unconsciously keep hidden. When our way of being is grounded within our authentic self, we give permission for others to turn inward and awaken to the existence of their own authentic self. This powerful awakening unleashes a whole new paradigm of leadership potential. This webinar was recorded on 8th October 2020 as part of Coacharya's Awake, Aware, Arise Virtual ConferenceYou can see the recording on our YouTube channel. Ep 30Coaching for a more Ethical World with David Clutterbuck
Without exception, every major challenge for our fast-changing world requires moral leadership — leaders who show courage, compassion, curiosity and connected-ness. A critical competence is the ability to recognise and manage ethical dilemmas with insight and wisdom. It is so easy for coaches to restrict the scope of their practice to the comfortable cycle of client-issue-coach. Yet this is like a school teaching its students to pass exams without developing them as concerned and caring human beings. The global ethical climate is in part our responsibility as coaches. In this webinar, David Clutterbuck will share tools and approaches that will help us take on these responsibilities, so we can contribute to creating the ethical leaders our world so desperately needs. This session was recorded on 13th October 2020 as part of Awake Aware AriseYou can see the recording on our YouTube channel. What would they be saying? How can you respond?-Would you like to role-play with me now on how you would commune with them on how they may influence you and you influence them? -What would your own self 20 years from now like to say to you now that may be of value to you? Ep 26Ontological Coaching Demonstration
Ontological Coaching is characterized by coaching to Way of Being. Our Way of Being is the underlying driver of communication and behaviour. Our perceptions and attitudes, many of which may be deep-seated and out of awareness, exist in our Way of Being. Change in these perceptions and attitudes can result in the removal of significant barriers to learning, and the spontaneous development of more effective patterns of communication and behaviour. Way of Being is regarded as a dynamic interrelationship between three areas of human existence – language, emotions, and body. Coaching in all three areas of language, emotions, and body has the potential to be transformative, for it can generate profound learning and deep constructive change. Ontology Based ACTP Coach Training
bonusCoaching should empower coachees to discover themselves, realize their potential and connect with their purpose, with the coach as a creative and supportive partner within this journey. While the nature of a coach’s mindset, emotions, and thoughts all have an effect on the coaching relationship, the ‘Being’ of the Coach is the most fundamental aspect of coaching. It defines the quality of the holding space that the coach enables within a coaching partnership, from which possibilities emerge. By default, our self-awareness is often limited to that which we know, and that which we are conscious of not knowing. Ontology opens up a hidden window showing us what we unknowingly don’t know about ourselves. It reveals a space that, although unperceived by us, is often silently commanding us: directing our thoughts and influencing our shifting mental, emotional and physical states. This 125-hour ACTP training program offers a deep journey into this abstract space guided by decades of research from well-known philosophers and ontological experts while aligning with and complementing the coaching competencies specified by the International Coaching Federation and the European Mentoring and Coaching Council. Within this immersion of ontological conversations, the participant will find within themselves enhanced awareness and self-expression. Ep 15Polaritites with Barry Johnson and Anne V Deaton
Barry Johnson, author of Polarity Management provides a powerful process to move from our normal ‘either/or’ to a ‘both/and’ thinking approach. In our experience 80% of coaching issues are about dilemmas, paradoxes or polarities. Client wonders what do I choose amongst these options, this or that. Most coaches help explore the good and the bad, the pros and cons, of the options in front of the client and choose the one where the scales go down. As Frost famously observed in his ‘Road less travelled’ that does not work too well. When we choose one road over another, either because it is less or more travelled, the grass always looks greener on the one we didn’t choose, mixing metaphors a bit. Whatever we choose, we have regrets about what we didn’t opt for based on mismatched expectations and results. The answer lies in choosing the middle path or seeking the Third Truth.Fons Trompenaars talks about this Third Truth as Reconciliation in a cross cultural context. You may like to read about his wisdom on reconciling differences.Polarity Management is about seeking the Third Truth. Johnson lists these as 5 key steps in his process. You can see the recording on our YouTube channel. Ep 14Politics and Coaching with David Clutterbuck
Politics plays a major role in every part of our lives. Although as coaches we like to see ourselves as above the murk of political intrigue, the reality is that we cannot avoid politics. In this podcast, David Clutterbuck, co-founder and lifetime ambassador of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council talks about how we can help navigate our client through the complexities of organizational loyalties, the rivalries between professional bodies, or how we position our own coaching practice versus those of competitors. This podcast explores topics such as What is a political dilemma? How do the mental models of politicians differ from others’?Is politics (small p) in the top teams of corporations really that different from Politics (big P) in government and opposition? How do you recognize politics at play? The coach as the power behind the throne — if all power corrupts, do coaches become corrupted by association? The critical difference between being political and being politically awareWhat role can coaches play in helping politicians and leaders in politicized environments be self-honest and make ethical decisions? Can politicians coach and mentor each other? What lessons and pitfalls are there for coaches in the concept of expediency? The ameliorating effect of a bloody-minded executive (Long live Sir Humphrey!)What are the challenges for supervisors, working with coaches whose clients work in a political environment? You can see the recording on our YouTube channel.
