A Deep Dive Into Impostor Syndrome

When good things such as a promotion or parenthood happen in our lives, we gain something - an external recognition of our abilities. But soon, feelings of self-doubt and personal incompetence could start to build up, despite our education, experience, and accomplishments. This is impostor syndrome. To counter these feelings, we might end up working harder and holding ourselves to even higher standards which are impossible to meet. We then fail to meet those standards and feel even worse about ourselves. The cycle turns into a downward spiral. Does that sound familiar? We have all dealt with impostor syndrome at one point or another. Perhaps you are dealing with it right now. Impostor syndrome can affect anyone, regardless of job or social status.
