Show Notes

Heavy rains in northern Ohio have triggered strong walleye spawning runs in the Maumee and Sandusky rivers, with Carolina rigs and floating jigs tipped in purple or orange proving effective. Steelhead trout are hitting northeast Ohio tributaries, with fly fishers using egg patterns and nymphs, and spinners scoring with spawn bags, jig maggots, or live shiners under floats. Last years Lake Erie walleye haul was impressive, with a record catch rate of 0.93 per hour. Experts estimate 77 million walleye over two years old across the lake, though yellow perch catches have dropped. Open water around Cleveland Harbor now yields perch, steelhead, bass, crappie, and pike from shore, and Ohios stocking of 85,000 pan-sized rainbow trout in 90 lakes begins this week.
