Elyria Police Identify Victim in Early Morning Shooting; Investigation Ongoing
A shooting on Elyrias east side resulted in the death of 25-year-old Nicholas Burkholder. The incident occurred around 2:50 AM on sixteenth Street near Middle Avenue. Burkholder arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound and later succumbed to his injuries.
A 54-year-old man reported that Burkholder, who was in a white SUV, approached his broken-down red truck, and a struggle ensued, leading to the shooting. Burkholder then returned to the SUV, and its occupants took him to the hospital. No one else was harmed, and the details of what Burkholder held during the altercation remain unclear.
Detectives from the Elyria Police Department and the Lorain County Coroners Office are investigating the incident. The Lorain County Prosecutors Office has not filed any charges yet, as the investigation is still active.
