Show Notes
A new study reveals alarming statistics on household cleaners harming young children. Over 240,000 kids under five visited the ER due to cleaner-related injuries from 2007 to 2022, with one incident occurring every 35 minutes. Detergent packets, bleach, and spray bottles were the main culprits. Detergent packets caused 33% of injuries, peaking in 2015 before declining with safety measures. Kids aged one to two were most at risk. Spray bottles led to 28% of cases, mostly eye injuries, and a quarter occurred when someone else sprayed the child. Ingestion was the primary cause, with hospital stays increasing to 7% from 5.5% in older data. Store cleaners safely and keep the Poison Help line handy for emergencies.
