Show Notes

Marie Victoire (1912–1914, première 2004) is a French-language opera in four acts by the composer Ottorino Respighi to a libretto by Edmond Guiraud (1879–1961) based on his French-language play of the same name, set in the French Revolution. This opera was composed between 1912 and 1914 but, in spite of various plans, was not performed during the life of Respighi, due to the outbreak of World War I but also to the hostility towards the work of the wife of the composer, Elsa.
