On this week's episode of Classic Movies Live!, our hosts talk about one of the most infamous behind-the-scenes misfires of all time: The Island of Dr. Moreau.
Originally a passion project for British director Richard Stanley, Moreau would drop Stanley partway through filming in favour of veteran director John Frankenheimer, who then proceeded to clash with the enormous personalities of stars Marlon Brando and Val Kilmer. Ultimately the film would release a critical failure and box office disappointment but would go on to have an oversized legacy thanks to absurd behind-the-scenes shenanigans.
Drawing from Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley's Island of Dr. Moreau, Kilmer's 2022 documentary Val, and the film itself, Pierre and Jeff discuss the Dr. Moreau's wild ride on the 27th (plus 2 months, almost) anniversary of the film's debut!
