A scheme aimed at reducing commercial rates for certain new Clare businesses has yet to see any uptake. Launched by the local authority in January, the Rates Waiver Scheme allows a reduction in rates for new or re-developed enterprises, including vacant units for hospitality purposes, campervan sites, nursing homes and creches. Under the scheme, businesses that meet the criteria would benefit from a waiver of 75% in the first year and an 85% waiver for those developing derelict sites. Quilty Fianna Fáil Councillor Michael Shannon says they expect increased interest later this year.
