The Clare branch of St Vincent De Paul is urging the Government to target supports at those hardest hit by the rising cost of living and the ongoing energy crisis. Global oil prices have eased following Donald Trump's suggestion that the war with Iran could "soon" be over, but remain 81 per cent higher than before the war, and logistics companies warn higher costs will have a knock-on effect on food prices. SVP received 260,000 requests for assistance last year, 5,000 of those in Clare alone, and the charity says energy costs were at the heart of that. President of the Clare branch of SVP, Denis Carty believes urgent action is needed to help lower income households in this county.
