Unveiling Rare Treasures: Cincinnati Museum Center Showcases Declaration of Independence Broadside and J.P. Balls Photographs
This summer, the Cincinnati Museum Center is unveiling a one-of-a-kind broadside print of the Declaration of Independence, made by printer John Holt on July 9, 1776. This rare artifact, one of only five remaining out of the original five hundred copies, will be on display for the second time ever. The document has deep ties to Cincinnati, having arrived with early settler Richard Fosdick in 1810 and passed down through his family. Visitors will also see architectural plans, wooden beams, and chains from the eighteenth-century Fort Washington, plus one of just thirty surviving Revolutionary War flags. In addition, a companion show features over one hundred original photographs by free Black photographer J.P. Ball, whose massive collection captures nineteenth-century life. Both exhibits open July 3rd.
