Captain Curtis Angst, a dedicated Ohio Air National Guard member from Wilmington, tragically lost his life in a military plane crash over Iraq. Alongside him, five other service members perished, including Captain Seth Koval from Indiana, Tech Sergeant Tyler Simmons from Ohio, and Tech Sergeant Ashley Pruitt from Kentucky. The crash, involving two planes but only one crash, was not due to hostile or friendly fire. The incident is under investigation. Angst, a 2014 Wilmington City Schools graduate, was known for his service, kindness, and passions. He leaves behind his wife Mary and many family members. Ohio Governor DeWine ordered flags lowered to half-staff in their honor. The deaths bring the U.S. toll to thirteen in Operation Epic Fury.
