Two moms, Christina Alcorn and Trisha Parnell, are advocating for safer streets near schools with a bill called Aspens Law. Named after Aspen Runnels, a high school freshman killed by a car in front of his campus, the law aims to turn hitting a pedestrian in an active school zone into an automatic felony and double fines for traffic violations there. The moms, who lost their children in similar crashes, have been lobbying for House Bill two zero three for the past year and a half. With the vote looming in Columbus, they hope Aspens Law will send a clear message to drivers about the real consequences on roads near kids.
