Pastoral Chat: Under the new covenant, tithing is not a commanded or required practice for believers but rather a voluntary act led by the Holy Spirit. While the Old Testament established a structured tithing system and Jesus affirmed tithing when speaking to those still under the law, the New Testament emphasizes giving freely and cheerfully without compulsion. There is no scriptural mandate for believers to give a fixed percentage to the local church, and all giving should be directed by the Holy Spirit, both in amount and destination.
