Sunday Service: Confusion about giving arises from mixing Old and New Covenant principles. In the Old Covenant, giving was mandatory, with specific rules and a quid pro quo system—blessings followed giving. In the New Covenant, we are blessed through Christ, and giving is an act of love, not obligation. Both covenants distinguish between supporting ministers and helping those in need. Giving under the New Covenant activates the law of seedtime and harvest, where God increases what we have to meet our needs and enable further generosity. In the early church, giving was direct—ministers were supported by those they served, and the church did not act as a financial middleman to those in need. Today's focus on giving to "the church" creates confusion, which could be reduced by returning to the early church model.
