Mal Schmitz and Kayla meet again to discuss perfectionism in motherhood.

I used to aspire to be the perfect Pinterest mom, but the realities of parenthood shattered that dream. In this episode, we candidly explore the pressure of perfectionism in parenting, sharing our own experiences and the guilt that often comes with setting unrealistic expectations for ourselves. We all face societal pressures, especially during holidays. Still, it's important to remember that it's okay not to meet every expectation.

Ah Ha Moments:

  • The pressure of the Pinterest mom ideal (and the inevitable disappointment that comes with it
  • Baby books are not a measure of love
  • Holidays can be stressful for mothers, who are often the ones responsible for creating the magic
  • Comparing yourself to others is a trap
  • Accepting your child for who they are is key to making certain decisions about celebrations.
  • Stop criticizing yourself
  • Our thoughts on the Elf on the Shelf and the Leprechaun traditions
  • Before making decisions, ask yourself, "What do I have the capacity for?"

In the latter part of the episode, we delve into the expectations surrounding holidays and celebrations. Whether it's setting up a leprechaun trap for St. Patrick's Day or baking for the holidays, we've all been there. However, choosing what feels authentic to you is important and honouring your limitations is important. Opting out of certain traditions doesn't mean we love our families any less.

So if you've ever felt the weight of parental expectations, tune in to this episode and know you're not alone.
