S2 Ep 3A 'Shoe'-In For More Distance - Bob Winskowicz
Chasin’ Birdies is more than what you do on the golf course. We like to hear what people are doing off the course, too. Today’s episode features Bob Winskowicz, the founder of SQAIRZ golf shoes. You may have seen SQAIRZ endorsed by Sir Nick Faldo or worn by Sepp Straka on the PGA TOUR. Regardless, the story of how SQAIRZ was born is fascinating, and by wearing these shoes, you may just gain some extra yardage off the tee.Hey, y’all! Want more distance? Try a pair of SQAIRZ! We all want more distance off the tee, or in general, but have you ever equated greater distance to the type of shoes you wear? We haven’t either until we interviewed Bob Winskowicz, the founder of SQAIRZ.We open up the interview and ask Bob how he figured out shoes can equate to more distance? Bob explains the logic behind his findings after a random business meeting led him to the driving range in his squared-toe dress shoes. He noticed his balls were flying further. What he did next is chasin’ birdies on a new level..Bob explains the science behind his findings and how he successfully launched the shoe company, SQAIRZ. With a partnership in place with Sir Nick Faldo, SQAIRZ was in position to take off. We ask Bob how he goes about getting Tour players to wear his shoes. He simply finds up and coming players to wear and bets on them in a big way. Prime example is Sepp Straka, winner of the 2022 Honda Classic. We turn the table and ask Bob some personal questions like what he does in his spare time and what’s in store for the future of SQAIRZ. Hearing an innovative entrepreneur talk is always interesting. If nothing else, this interview is extremely interesting and could help you find a few extra yards! We end the episode with our standard tap-in segment where we ask Bob 4 questions that demand his quick witted response. Be sure to check out SQAIRZ on-line and thank you for listening to another fantastic episode! Undrafted and signed by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1982, Phil knows a thing or two about chasin’ birdies in life as well as on the golf course. We interviewed Phil at the Dirty Dog Cigar Shoppe in McKeesport, PA. Naturally, Phil and Mr. Pepe can’t get enough of their cigars. The episode opens with Phil explaining what it was like being undrafted and coming to Pittsburgh, a pure hockey city. Phil tells a lot of stories regarding their two year cup run from 1990-1992.We all know there are the names sketched on the outside of the Stanley Cup, but what about on the inside? After being responsible for housing the Cup, we get to hear the story of how his name was sketched on the INSIDE of the Stanley Cup. This is gold. The show progresses into golf talk and why golfing is one of his favorite things to do. He has 5 reasons for why he loves golf..and golf itself is last.We transition to our final segment, the tap-in segment, where Phil is asked four questions that require his quick, witty response. For you hockey and golf lovers out there, we guarantee you will enjoy this fun episode. S1 Ep 20Double Play > Double Bogey - Neil Walker Post MLB Life
A hometown hero in Pittsburgh, Neil Walker was ‘the Pittsburgh kid’. In 2015, he turned the first 4-5-4 triple play in Major League history. After Pittsburgh, Neil played for the Mets, Yankees, Brewers, Miami, and finally retired after a short stint in Philly. This episode was recorded at Nemacolin Resort in Farmington, PA. The Chasin’ Birdies boys played Neil and Eric in a two-man best ball format before recording this episode. We open up the talk with how he adjusted after just being drafted into the big leagues. He admits that it was a hard transition but eventually got easier.Neil bounced around from various positions until he finally realized he was best at 2nd base. One perk for Neil was being able to peg it up during Spring Training or while on the road. This is where his love for golf started to blossom. After more baseball talk coupled with life talk, we turn the tables and fire in our tap-in segment. Neil tells a story about Roberto Clemente that will leave chills all over your body. S1 Ep 19Shep Rose - TV Star Turned Golf Junkie
Here at Chasin’ Birdies we tend to feel that we’re constantly pushing our brand to bring on guests from all walks of life. This week, we don’t have a hockey player, or an NHL referee, or even a country singer. Instead, Shep Rose, Bravo TV Star, joins us on this week’s episode to talk more than just golf.We open the episode up with us learning (and you, too) that Shep is off to Alaska for a fishing trip. Boozing and fishing in Alaska sounds like a dream, and for Shep, he’s living it. Close encounters with Grizzly Bears seems to be quite alright with Shep.We turn the page and talk golf. How he got involved in golf and what his golf schedule is like while balancing his jammed pack schedule. At 6’4, he had to go through a few swing changes to get his game back on track. We talk to Shep about his experience at the BMW Celebrity Golf Tournament that he played in with Max Homa..which he didn’t know who the hell that was. He rubs elbows with Aaron Rodgers and is still owed lasagna from Max for draining a putt. After some more golf talk / stories, we turn the page to our final segment of the show, the Tap-In Segment. We ask Shep a few questions that require his witty response. This episode is full of laughs and is one you will definitely want to tune into!Key Links:Visit hbgolf.com for great golf apparel now repped by Chasin’ Birdies.Stay tuned for more info on winning custom headcovers from WinstonCollection.comOur Tap-in segment is sponsored by Bettinardi Golf-----Follow Chasin’ Birdies on Instagram @chasin_birdies.Chasin’ Birdies is hosted by Ryan Bashour and Jonathan Pepe and is proudly recorded in West Virginia. S1 Ep 18NHLer Turned Birdie Chaser - Ryan Callahan
Chasin’ Birdies feels the positive effects of having NHL guys on the podcast. The trend continues this week with former Ranger, Lightning, and Olympian Ryan Callahan. Callahan represented Team USA in the 2010 Olympics. He also was the big “C” in New York where is from originally. The episode opens with Ryan explaining how he was drafted into the NHL and what it meant to him being a Ranger. After his stint in NY, he was traded to Tampa Bay. We discuss his time in TB where he played with some big names. We ask Ryan what he felt when selected for Team USA in the Olympics. We twist this episode from hockey talk straight to golf talk. Of course, we got to talk a little member-guest talk.Like us all, he enjoys the course with his friends and sometimes he can’t drink enough while on the course. We turn the episode to our standard tap-in segment where we fire off a set of questions that will require Ryan’s tailored response. This episode is like a Snicker’s bar..satisfies the hunger (whether for golf or hockey).Key Links:Visit hbgolf.com for great golf apparel now repped by Chasin’ Birdies.Stay tuned for more info on winning custom headcovers from WinstonCollection.comOur Tap-in segment is sponsored by Bettinardi Golf-----Follow Chasin’ Birdies on Instagram @chasin_birdies.Chasin’ Birdies is hosted by Ryan Bashour and Jonathan Pepe and is proudly recorded in West Virginia. S1 Ep 17Pepe x Bash 3.0 - Anything Goes
Every now and then we like to drop an episode where it’s just us being...well, us. For those of you that know us personally, we tend to constantly be on the ‘shit talking’ game. It’s all in love, though. It’s been 3 months since we’ve released a banter session and with our golf games in shambles, we felt it was appropriate to drop one. We talk about golf and some stories we’ve recently encountered while playing. Whether it was the West Virginia State Amateur or the Youghiogheny CC Member-Guest, the boys are feeling the effects of ‘bad’ golf.We incorporate a new segment of our show into this episode with Spade, a pro handicapper / gambler. Allow us to introduce you to Spade’s Corner where we will phone Spade and talk sports betting for all you addicts. ‘Tis the season for football and what better way to introduce the season with some opening line talk via Spade.Light hearted, humourous, and entertaining episode that will surely keep your attention and have you laughing at the same time. S1 Ep 16Sam Bettinardi x Golf Talk
The putter is arguably the most needed, most hated, and sometimes the most loved club in the bag. If making more putts confidently translates to lower scores and finding that putter was as easy as buying a Bettinardi putter, wouldn’t you do it? Sam Bettinardi, who at a young age runs the show at Bettinardi Golf, joins us for this fantastic in-person episode to discuss life at Bettinardi and all other things golf. This episode was recorded at Bettinardi’s HQ just outside of Chicago. The show opens up with us discussing the beginning stages of Bettinardi Golf and how his Father, Bob, started the company. We segway into all the unique aspects the company offers including their headcovers, limited product launch, and how they evolved into the powerhouse company that they are today. We talk golf..lots of golf. This company is more than just a putter manufacturer and that is evidenced through this interview. After listening to Sam talk, you’ll be a fan of Bettinardi especially if you’re looking to lower your score on the course. We round out the interview with our standard tap-in segment where Sam is asked questions that require his swift answer. A fun filled, light hearted interview that will pique your interest and hopefully will lead you to buying a new putter.Key Links:Visit hbgolf.com for great golf apparel now repped by Chasin’ Birdies.Stay tuned for more info on winning custom headcovers from WinstonCollection.comOur Tap-in segment is sponsored by Bettinardi Golf-----Follow Chasin’ Birdies on Instagram @chasin_birdies.Chasin’ Birdies is hosted by Ryan Bashour and Jonathan Pepe and is proudly recorded in West Virginia. S1 Ep 15Birdie Calls With Willie Robertson
Duck Commander and Reality TV Star Willie Robertson sits down with Chasin’ Birdies to discuss a bit about his life and how his love for golf keeps him chasin’ those birdies. We open the episode up by asking Willie a few questions about how he got into the business world and what he’s currently working on now. Being an avid outdoorsman, Willie is a man’s man. His faith based foundation and solidness as a human resonates throughout this episode. We turn the chapter to his smoking abilities (meats, not cigarettes). As golfers, we aren’t familiar with smoking meat so we thought this was a justified topic for discussion! As we turn the page again we talk about golf and all the courses Willie has played as well as missing a 9-inch putt. Pepe had the pleasure of playing with Willie at nemacolin where he almost killed Pepe with an errant shot. We wrap the show up with our standard tap-in segment and we think this is our best tap-in segment yet. Enjoy this fun episode while you’re on the course, in the car, or in the air! He has worked with coaches and CEOs to help foster a better winning environment. The episode includes talk of PGA Tour players he has worked with including Rory, Justin Thomas, Jim Furyk, and Curtiss Strange to name a few. S1 Ep 13Golf talk with Annika
The show opens up with Jonathan and Ryan recapping their epic win at the Pikewood National Member-Guest last month. It was a big deal for the boys especially since winning a member guest as scratch golfers is a difficult task. And our guest, Annika Sorenstam, is also known for chasin’ birdies.Annika Sorenstam is one of the most famous golfers to ever play the game. After finishing his career in Chicago, Merril discusses how he came into the television scene and why his innate mindset to “find a way” helped him get to where he is today. One thing that can’t be questioned: the mental abuse golf inflicts on anyone.
