West Virginias March revenue soared, exceeding estimates by $39 million and surpassing last years performance by 4.4%. The states year-to-date revenue is $199 million ahead of projections, with a projected surplus of at least $250 million. The only soft spot was personal income tax, which was down 10.9% due to faster refunds. Other taxes, such as consumer sales tax, severance taxes, and insurance premiums, performed exceptionally well. The states interest income is also up, and a recent 5% income tax cut will soon put more money in residents pockets.
