Fostering a relationship with the community is a special task – and it does not end with the development or code contributions. Open Source not only means community development – it means a certain level of openness and trust between the product and the users. With technologically complex products the path of collaboration goes beyond the development: the whole user experience is intertwined with a feedback – improvement – repeat cycle. At Checkmk, a community-driven approach is ingrained in our DNA. What started as a bunch of scripts for easy setup of a Nagios based monitoring environment, evolved – driven by user demand and feedback – into a fully fledged monitoring solution that is easy to set up and maintain. There are different ways of cooperation for different tasks that makes our work together with the community efficient and successful: be it surveys, user tests with specialized software, interviews or an informal cup of coffee in our Munich office. Our UX Lead Tanja will share insights from the Notifications project on how we have turned user feedback into a culture of collaboration to develop better interfaces with our users - and how you can do the same.
