Even Cedric Maxwell is Impressed by Celtics Start + Max Runs into Jayson Tatum at the CLUB
Jayson Tatum is off to a impressive start... His second-half play alongside Kemba Walker has led the Celtics to a quick four-game winning streak, and with matchups against the Cavaliers and the Hornets approaching, it doesn’t look like they’ll be slowing down anytime soon. Tatum is averaging 22 points per game while shooting 40 percent from the floor but will he be able to sustain this all year round? Is this going to be the season we see Tatum reach superstar status? Coming off of an impressive week that started with Paul Pierce cheering on Tatum and the Celtics in their 19-point comeback win against the Bucks – which was followed by Tatum’s first NBA game-winning shot against the Knicks – things are looking good for the third-year pro. Cedric Maxwell and Josue Pavon analyze Tatum’s play, discuss if the Celtics’ five-game stretch is enough of a sample size to change their expectations on the 2019-20 campaign and discuss which other Celtics players have stood out the most to them. The REAL Rajon Rondo According to Cedric Maxwell + NBA Western Conference Preview
Cedric Maxwell and Josue Pavón preview the NBA’s Western Conference. Pavon breaks down his top five teams in the conference, only to realize that there could be up to six teams worthy of being mentioned. Maxwell is reluctant to rank five teams due to the competitiveness of what’s expected to be a tight battle before the two breakdown which teams should be heavily considered and which teams will find themselves on the outside looking in. Are the Clippers the top team in the west as Pavón believes they are? How will the Lakers fare with LeBron James and Anthony Davis joining forces, and will there be trouble in paradise with Rajon Rondo in the mix? Max gives his take on the Rondo effect, reflecting on his final days in Boston and questioning if he can make a positive impact with the Lakers this season. Tune in to find out what Max had to say, as the two dive deep into the 2019-20 season preview. Support Max's Podcast by Supporting His Sponsor BetOnline.AG - With Football is half way over?!?! Lakers' Michael Cooper & Max Mend 35 Year Old Feud, Speak for 1st Time Since Celtics vs Lakers, 1985 NBA Finals
Any avid NBA fan would know that the most heated rivalry, steeped in decades of tradition and titles, is the LA Lakers and Boston Celtics. Recently, Cedric Maxwell (1981 Finals MVP, 1984 Game 7 Hero) and Michael Cooper (5x Champion & famed Larry Legend stopper) sat down and chatted for the 1st time since the Lakers devastated the Cetlics in six games of the 1985 NBA Finals. Worst part? LA crippled Boston on the old Boston Garden. That Lakers victory marked the first time that LA had beaten the Celtics and the first time since drafting Bill Russell, that the Celtics lost a deciding game on their famed parquet floor. The Celtics loss in game 6 also marked the first time any NBA team had won a championship in Boston Garden. Though '85 was a series of firsts, it also marked one final moment... Though no one had known it at the time, game six in Boston was also the last time Cornbread Maxwell would wear a Celtics uniform, being traded to the Clippers just a few months later for Bill Walton. The 2 NBA legends started with one of the Celtics shining moments and one that stung Lakers' fans and Cooper showed, he still wasn't over the 1984, game 7 loss to the Celtics. Coop indicated that, to this day, the Lakers '84 Finals loss still stings the worst. Michael and Cornbread talked about everything from the brilliance of Larry Bird and Magic Johnson, to the nightmares Maxwell gave James Worthy (choke?), the origins of the nickname "Tragic Magic" and the behind-the-scenes rivalry that included some harsh racial undertones from the LA African American players to the Celtics ML Carr, Cornbread, Henderson, Buckner and Chief. Until this podcast, the bitter rivalry and hard feelings still existed. Hear Max panting and imagine him sweating as he talked about his (continued) hatred for all things LA. Cooper took comfort and surprise in hearing the true feelings the legendary '84 Celtics had for the Lakers. As an astute NBA history buff, I thought I heard every imaginable story about this 60 year old rivalry but I was wrong as these two iconic players relive, retell and rethink a lot of what actually happened during the 1980's version of this 60 year old rivalry. Wondering what the Lakers thought when McHale replaced an injured Cedric Maxwell in the starting five in 1985? You'll be surpriced... Who did the Lakers game plan for most, besides Larry Bird? Another shocker... Did you know Cornbread used to hang in the Forum Club? What did Coop and his teammates hate most about Boston? What did Max and his Boston teammates hate most about the Lakers? How did Max TRULY feel when he was traded to the Clippers before the 1985-86 season? Why did Michael Cooper retire early? How was Kareem as a teammate? Was Magic Johnson really that happy all the time? What was Magic's favorite pass time with his teammates? All these questions and WAY more are answered in today's Cedric Maxwell Podcast. If you're tuning in to this show, please do Max a solid and rate, subscribe and review to the phone where ever you stream your pods. Max Tells The TRUE STORY of the Bacon & Eggs Controversy that Rocked Boston Radio + Raps on Dave Chappelle
This episode of the Cedric Maxwell Podcast features the usually charismatic, and upbeat Max is ripping for the second straight episode. Josue Pavon really has learned to push Cornbread's buttons. Max is Foul Today, Rips Jay-Z, the NFL, Red Sox & Donald Trump
This episode of the Cedric Maxwell Podcast features the usually charismatic, and upbeat Max is unusually ripping into just about every name Josue Pavon mentions. Starting with Jay-Z's NFL ambitions, leading right to the Boston Red Sox and rounding out this epic rant with some Donald Trump hate, Cornbread holds back NOTHING today. Additionally, Max reveals the difficulties he experienced, growing up black in the segregated south. It's not often that you hear these intimate stories from Cornbread. From "black doorways," to "black-white fountains" and "black sections" in restaurants, Max really takes us back to a time long gone and asks, "has the Trump presidency brought us the closest we've been to the race riots of the 1960s? Celtics vs Lakers: The Untold Story of the Players Rivalry + Being a Black Player for Celtics
Cedric Maxwell is back with another inside look at the rivalry everyone seems to think they know everything about, until now... Max goes deep into the Celtics - Lakers rivalry from a racial point. Looking at how the Showtime Lakers looked at the African American members of the Celtics as traitors or, how Max put it, "Uncle Toms." The hatred between these 2 teams in the mid 80's was real but I bet you never knew Mychal Cooper referred to ML Carr as "The Fiddler" and we bet you don't even know that reference is prejudice, tune in today to find out why. Max on Where the Celtics Land Among the NBA's Best Super Teams?
The 2019-2020 NBA campaign is going to be a fun and crazy ride. After seeing All-Star duos formed in Brooklyn (Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving), Los Angeles (LeBron James, Anthony Davis) and Utah (Mike Conley, Rudy Gobert), the Clippers and Rockets joined the party and in the process shocked the league. While fans collectively held their breath anticipating for Kawhi Leonard’s decision to sign with the Lakers, Clippers or Raptors, Los Angeles – not the Lakers – was on the verge of prying away All-Star forward Paul George from Oklahoma City in preparation for Leonard’s arrival. Now, Leonard, George, and the Clippers are viewed as the odds-on favorite to capture a title in 2020 even after the Thunder sent the final piece of their 2012 Western Conference champion squad, Russell Westbrook to Houston – where he’ll reunite with former MVP, All-Star James Harden. Cedric Maxwell discusses what this all means for the NBA and its up-and-coming franchises trying to stay afloat in a top-heavy Western Conference while the Eastern Conference has suddenly opened up for a team like the Celtics – one that’s trying to compete for a conference title and return to the NBA Finals for the first time in nine years. Where does Boston rank alongside teams like the Bucks and Sixers? Is this much player movement good for the league? Should the NBA consider changing its playoff format from top-8 teams from each conference to a top-16 team tournament qualify for playoff contention based on a team’s record, regardless of which conference it plays for? Josue Pavon and Max break it down in this brand new episode. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

How the Celtics Can Come Back from 3-1 Down to Bucks + Kyrie Irving is a Genius (?)
BOSTON -- The Celtics will look to avoid a 3-1 hole in their best-of-7 series when they host the Bucks in Game 4 Monday night at TD Garden. Cedric Maxwell and Josue Pavon previewed the matchup in the latest episode of the Cedric Maxwell Podcast of CLNS Media. Maxwell believes the Celtics' second unit will be very important Monday. After the Celtics reserves were outscored by Bucks backup guard George Hill while Pat Connaughton was efficient for Milwaukee's second unit, Max believes only Boston's depth can salvage the series and push the Celtics to even things up before heading to Milwaukee for Game 5. "A lot of it is, they're playing bully-ball," Maxwell said. "Your bench has to score. (Pat) Connaughton can't score as many points as your bench, and (George) Hill can't score as many points as your bench. The strength of the Celtics is going to be their bench. Rozier did not have any points in that game (Game 3). You think (about) last year at this time, Terry Rozier was celebrated as 'Scary Terry.' T-shirts flying around, all this. Terry Rozier has to find that niche where he can get back and he can be that dude because they need all hands on deck. "What makes the Celtics more dangerous is from top to bottom, I think, they have more talent than anybody in the NBA but when you have those gaps and those pitfalls, you cannot have Terry Rozier in a game and not score. I can't even imagine that -- not score in a vital game." Max also added that Jaylen Brown, by his assessment, has been the most consistent Celtics player in the series and that Jayson Tatum's play in Game 3 was encouraging as the second-year forward was able to snap out of his recent playoff scoring slump. While Rozier's offensive production from the second unit is important for the Celtics, Gordon Hayward's scoring is much more important, according to Max. "More than anybody, Gordon Hayward has to step up and be aggressive," Maxwell said. "Instead of being a facilitator, he has to attack the rim. He has to get to the free-throw line. If you get Gordon Hayward to the free-throw line eight times, I think you have a better chance of winning the game and the Celtics just didn't do that." Learn more about your ad choices.
