Cedar Point Recovery - Weekly Messages

When God calls out to us we have a choice, though the choice is rarely easy. We can choose to remain in our bubble and be about our business or we can step out and step into God’s will.

During times of unrest and cultural failures, it's important for us as Jesus followers to have and attitude of "Yes Lord, here I am. It positions us to look towards God, evaluate our own condition, and points people towards Jesus.

The Bible is full of examples of people being used in-spite of their past. The story of Moses is one of those examples. It reveals that when we present ourselves to God, with a 'here I am" kind of attitude, that God can do amazing things. That he can deal with our past and equip us for a great work. When it comes to our faith and the pursuit of God’s call on our lives, we tend to dismiss our ability to be used. We look at our past, our character flaws, or even our perceived lack of faith as disqualifiers. The truth of the matter though, God is just looking for present people who are willing to be used. When we answer God’s call with a “Here I am” attitude, we will not only find ourselves in his service, but we will find our story changed.

Experiencing God's purpose requires us to be ready for a higher purpose, and to be fully present and attentive to the moment. So often we are ready for what we want and give no mind to what God may want. We respond to him with a "Yes Lord, there you are…” rather than a "Yes Lord, Here I am" kind of attitude. Tonight we will examine Abraham and discover what changing our response can do in our lives.

For many of us, what we leave behind is an area of contemplation. Will we be remembered and if so, what for? What kind of adults will our children and grandchildren be? What will be said at our funeral? Though we can’t answer those questions for sure, we can focus on building a legacy that honors God. We can trust that when we do that, our lives will be more meaningful than we could ever imagine.

Cedar Point Recovery is a Christ centered recovery program. We believe that a relationship with Jesus is essential to finding success on the road to recovery. We believe that we are not powerless in our situations, that with the help of Jesus we have the ability to change. We believe that Jesus is the ultimate story changer and that our past does not define us.

Have you ever thought back to that moment? The moment that you realized that there was more to this whole Jesus thing than you’d thought before. Maybe it was an answered prayer, a miracle, or a gentle whisper from somewhere beyond the moment. It’s easy to lose sight of. Life gets busy, its difficult, and we forget the incredible ways God has moved and shown up. But it’s important to share what God has done and what he is doing. It’s important to share the truth so that others may encounter the same loving father that you have.

God created us for relationships and for community. Because of that, we have a deep seeded desire to “fit in” with those we spend the most time with. In a strong God fearing Christian culture this is a good thing. Unfortunately our world is broken, people are sinful, and our culture is post Christian. That means in a place where the normal was to trend towards morality, it’s now the opposite. We are encouraged not only to celebrate our indulgences, but to do so with a sense of pride. Join us for

The Church was never meant to be recognized solely as a building. It was always meant to display God’s wisdom and to be a light in a world that is full of darkness.

In order to travel the narrow road, we must have a narrow focus. Our “good intentions” or our “noble pursuits” will not earn us a seat at the table or bring us into the KIngdom of God. Outside of Christ there are no righteous people. Because of that we must endeavor to know Him and follow Him. We will not accidentally make him Lord, we will not accidentally have a relationship that saves. We must pursue His presence and make sure He is first in every area of our lives.

In order to travel the narrow road, we must have a narrow focus. Our “good intentions” of successful careers, great family legacies, physical goals, wealth, and personal experiences are not necessarily bad, but they can not be our guides and they make a lousy compass. We must center ourselves, our lives, and our journeys on the gateway to life. We must live to honor God and exemplify Jesus.a

With the Christmas season upon us it’s important to remember what all the hype is about. The lights, the movies, hot chocolate, and Santa are all fun, but they should not have our heart. It’s officially the Holiday Season! It can be the best time of the year for many, but for others it can stir up feelings of jealousy and envy. We want what we don’t have and we fight for what others are blessed with. But is this the right fight? God has called us to be content and thankful. We should celebrate others and pray for them, even when they are blessed beyond our measure.

We live in a culture that’s driven by lust. Uncontrolled desire is looked at as if it’s some kind of virtue to be pursued and obtained. “Everything in excess”, that seems to be the battle cry of modern culture. If one is good then two is better, right? If it feels good, then do it, right? But God has called us to deny ourselves and put our flesh under his authority. We fight to meet every desire and satisfy every craving, but we should be fighting for moderation and discipline.

We’ve all been hurt at one time or another. It’s a part of the cost of living in a broken world with broken people. Human nature says that when we are wounded, she should wound back and “get even”. But God has called us to “turn the other cheek” and ‘forgive seventy times seven”. Instead of fighting to get back at those who have hurt us or fighting to hold on to a grudge, we should be fighting to be meek and forgiving.

There are over 2000 verses in our Bible concerning money. Nearly 15% of everything Jesus spoke about related to money and possessions, in fact it was his most talked about topic. But why? Because Jesus knew what all of us know when we examine things honestly. Money and possessions, the things we seek to own, will quickly take possession of us if they are not submitted to God. Join us today as we look at Fighting the Right Fight, pushing back against greed and seeking to be generous.

The enemy pushes us into the rat race, convinces us that the most important things are money, position, power, and self importance. We fight in order to build monuments to our inflated ego. But is that the right fight? Pride comes before the fall. We should be fighting to serve those around us, to be close to God, and to humble ourselves to his greater purpose.

We are a culture that shies away from commitment. We want all of the benefits but without the strings of reciprocated expectations. But Jesus is calling… and we must realize that Jesus doesn’t call us to be half hearted, he calls us to be all in and fully committed to the plan and purpose of God.
