One way to get at a person’s view of themselves is to ask the question: What is your personality? There are hundreds of personality tests that we have access to that seem to capture who we are. They can be found in magazines, online quizzes, used in marriage counseling, Facebook, etc. How do terms like “introvert” versus “extrovert” influence our view of who we are? What do we do with these popular terms that seem to capture/identify who we are and yet are not found in Scripture? Recently CCEF Executive Director Tim Lane and his wife Barbara traveled to Montreal, Canada, to share CCEF's "How People Change" curriculum with over 500 people at SEMBEQ Seminary in that city. SEMBEQ has formed a partnership with CCEF to assist in their mission of training pastors with a zeal for church planting. The seminary intentionally partners with local churches, and much of the seminarians' training takes place "on the job" in those churches. During their visit, Tim and Barbara sat down with Francois Turcotte & Francois Picard, two of SEMBEQ's leaders, to discuss their unique vision and mission, as well as how CCEF's teaching ministry has become an indispensible part of the training they offer. This podcast is taken from that conversation.

It's no secret that sex is everywhere, infiltrating the remotest points of our society. How does a Christian remain in this sex-obsessed world without falling into its lies and snares? Ed Welch teaches how we can live godly lives amid rampant wickedness, and how we can counsel those who have been harmed by it. Ed is a counselor and faculty member of the Christian Counseling and Educational Foundation, as well as the author of several books. Speaker Elliott Greene is assistant professor of Biblical Languages at Redeemer Theological Seminary, Dallas and Assistant Pastor at New St. Peter's Presbyterian Church (Dallas). He is President/Principal of Tyrannus Hall Foundation for Pastoral Development, bringing biblical and theological training to minority pastors. In this podcast from the 2008 National Conference, Professor Greene shares about "Manipulation: The Subtle Adiction". Elliott Greene will be returning to CCEF's conference this year to teach "When a Position of Authority Is Abused".

This week we present a favorite presentation from one of our past National Conferences. Speaker Phil Monroe is a licensed psychologist as well as associate professor and program director at Biblical Theological Seminary in Hatfield, PA. In this podcast from the 2008 National Conference, Phil shares "Counseling Strategies for Individuals with Addictions". Addicts present unique challenges to counselors. This session will explain counseling goals and practical strategies common to a wide variety of problems associated with addictive behaviors, attitudes, and motivations. Phil will be returning to CCEF's conference this year to teach "When Sex in Marriage Doesn't Work". The 2009 CCEF National Conference is November 13-15.

This week we present a favorite presentation from one of our past National Conferences. Steve Estes is a pastor, author, and board member of CCEF. Speaker Diane Langberg is a practicing psychologist and director of Diane Langberg, Ph. D. & Associates in Jenkintown, PA. She is an international conference speaker and adjunct professor at Westminster Theological Seminary, as well as the author of numerous books and publications, including On the Threshold of Hope and Counseling Survivors of Sexual Abuse. In this conference address titled "Self Deception - a Supporting Column of Addiction" Dr. Langberg helps us understand that at the root of not only addiction but most sins is deception, lies we tell not only to God and our loved ones, but to ourselves.
