CSA Podcast Episode 2

In this episode, Dr. Benjamin Smith and Jason Gale discuss Joseph Pieper's Book, "Leisure: The Basis of Culture". They discuss the importance of this little book in our current cultural setting. Authentic leisure cannot be reduced to entertainment or those things we "do for fun", but as Pieper points out, is something that involves the soul and leads to contemplation. Leisure is higher than work because it has no use. It is for its own sake and helps build the culture because leisure opens the soul to reality. Examples of leisure are learning, worship, and building friendships. Our current culture tries to redefine or self-define reality which actually closes them off to the truth of the way things are, but authentic leisure has a humble openness to reality as it is and thus builds up the person to be more human as he is made in the image and likeness of God.
