Ep 348Catch Up with Catherine Connolly

This week I had the opoprtunity to spend some time with independent presidential candidate Catherine Connolly, and I really enjoyed learning more about her and why she decided to seek the role of Uachtarán na hÉireann. We discuss some of the challenges facing Ireland at the moment, her early life growing up in social housing as one of fourteen, and why she thinks you should vote for her.Unfortunately, the table our microphones were on was a little wobbly which occasionally resulted in a little bump, but hopefully that's not too distracting. To support the podcast and access bonus episodes, join the community on Patreon here.Come to the Catch Up Cabaret (ish) - get your tickets here. S1 Ep 326Catch Up with Alison Spittle

E

This week I'm catching up with the much-loved Alison Spittle, comedian, podcaster, writer and actor. I originally wanted to chat to her about her new show which is currently on in Edinburgh and is coming to Dublin Fringe in September, as well as her new podcast Magazine Party, and we do talk about those things, but mainly we talk about the complicated topic of weight and weight loss. This is tricky territory and I know it can be triggering for some people (including me depending on where I am in terms of body image at a given moment), so if you can't listen right now, that's ok. I do think it's a useful conversation though between two people who have given a lot of thought to the layered toxicity of diet culture, conversation around body image, life as a fat person and the impact of weight loss. S1 Ep 323Catch up with Ria Czerniak-LeBov

Today's episode is a conversation with Ria Czerniak-LeBov. You may remember that Carl mentioned Ria's recent piece in the Irish Examiner, the headline of which was 'Not all Jews are Zionists - Alan Shatter Does Not Speak for Me'. Ria has been writing for months about her perspective on Israel's actions, and she was generous enough to share her perspective with me on the podcast this week. It was clear through our conversation that speaking out in this way as a member of Ireland's jewish community comes at a cost, but I am so grateful to Ria for the work she's doing in this area, and her valuable perspective. To support the podcast and access bonus episodes, join the community on Patreon here. S1 Ep 314Catch Up with Senator Nicole Ryan

E

I first became aware of today’s guest when I saw a clip of her speaking in the Seanad last week. The clip began with Senator Nicole Ryan, who was elected to the Seanad in February, saying that sometimes people forget that before people become politicians they’re people with lives who have experiences that shape how they see the world, and it was her personal experience which led her to put forward the amendment that was being discussed that day. The proposed amendment was to the existing Domestic Violence Bill, and it suggested that the presence of children in cases of domestic violence should be considered an aggravating factor when it came to sentencing. She outlined her own experience in the Seanad, and I immediately wanted to know more. Thankfully, she found time to speak to me this week, and today I’m bringing you that conversation.CW: domestic violence, drug related death and pregnancy lossTo support the podcast and access bonus episodes, join the community on Patreon here.Join us in Connolly's of Leap on July 17th! Send your thoughts, feelings, opinions and suggestions to 0892096423!I was delighted when I got the opportunity to speak to Ruesha Littlejohn, who is a longstanding member of Ireland's Women's National Football Team and is currently also playing for Shamrock Rovers in the Women's Premier Division here in Ireland. Ruesha has made a name for herself online across multiple podcasts and her much loved YouTube channel RuTube, as well as generally being a gas ticket. I really enjoyed catching up with her about what made her come to play in the Irish league, what she's gotten from her career so far, and the growing interest in the personal lives of female football players. To support the podcast and access bonus episodes, join the community on Patreon here.Join us in Connolly's of Leap on July 17th!
