When it comes to school, we thought that if we put the right parameters in place, if we put them in a school with extra resources that suited their learning styles and if we gave them tutors when they needed extra help that we wouldn't have to be a part of the learning and teaching. And by "we", we mean Nat. It turns out that is not the case. An alarm bell recently went off when one our kids expressed a lot of emotions over school work. Nat's been doing some proper adult things lately including getting a pap. Confidence starts at such a young age. We don't put enough weight into the conversation so that as they age, they don't lose that. We are trying to catch up as adults rather than protect them when they are young. Teach them how to navigate friendships when the fck up. Friends won't always agree with you. They won't always like you. That's a hard thing to understand. We alter ourselves in order to be liked but if everybody likes you, you aren't that interesting. We are in the full swing of it with kids home for the summer so we are turning on some reruns where we can! For our sanity. In this repeat episode, someone sprung on us that one of our kids might have dyslexia or dysgraphia. From a parents perspective, dropping those words without analysis is a little alarming. When you are a parent you want to help them but do we care if children learn differently? We are very well versed in learning disabilities. On today's episode, we recap a little about all the sex we were having on vacation (jk!) and chat about advice to our younger selves and to our children. We want them to know that the biggest mistake of all time is equating sex with wanting, desire, attraction, and healthy relationships. We aren't saying that a relationship with intimacy and connection isn't important; however, while on a family vacation, recognize that we are having an intimate connection and family bonding time. Look at the relationship as a pie. Sex is a piece of the pie, but so are many other things. Everyone is bringing their baggage into the sex and relationship discussion. If you aren't having sex, the assumption is that you are divorcing. If you are having sex, the assumption is that you are winning. When did one person's weight loss become everyone's business? It's putting women in a position where they have to defend themselves. It's not fair. Shouldn't we be saying to Oprah or Kelly Clarkson (or any woman, for that matter) congratulations? Not "What did you do?" or implying that they sold out by taking a drug that is available on the market.
