Carolina has now lost 4 straight games in what has become a pattern of mistakes from which they can not recover.

The Hurricanes played 40 great minutes and were tied 1-1. Then a defensive zone mistake cost them the lead and they couldn't recover in a 4-1 loss in Philly. Carolina is off on Wednesday before hosting the Rangers on Thursday night at PNC Arena.

The Hurricanes beat the Red Wings on Friday night in a wild, up and down the ice affair. It's fair to wonder if that game didn't give the Hurricanes a bit of a false sense of who they were. Too many mistakes and not enough smart hockey doomed the Canes to a home loss to a New Jersey squad that had won just twice all year. Sebastian Aho, Jaccob Slavin and Dougie Hamilton each had three points and Petr Mrazek added 29 saves for his 6th straight win on home ice this year as Carolina moved to 9-3-1 on the season. The Hurricanes will meet the Devils at PNC Arena tonight at 7:00.
