<p>Carolina gave up 5 goals in the 2nd period and went on to lose to the Avalanche 6-4 in Denver.&nbsp; The Canes winning streak ends at 8 straight.&nbsp; The Hurricanes had a 2-0 lead on the strength of goals from Jack Drury and Jordan Martinook, but Cale Makar's second period shorthanded goal ignited a 5-goal outburst.&nbsp; It was the first shorthanded goal the Canes have allowed this year.&nbsp; 9 minutes and 34 seconds later, Mikko Rantanen scored the Avs' 5th of the period and Carolina never regained the lead.&nbsp; Martinook scored his second of the game early in the 3rd to get the Canes within a goal, but that was it for their scoring on the night.&nbsp; Martin Necas scored a 2nd period power play goal to extend his streak to 9 straight with at least 1 point.&nbsp; Necas has 20 points in that stretch and has 23 points (8g, 15a) in 13 games this season.&nbsp; Spencer Martin made 24 saves in his first start for the Hurricanes this year.</p>
