<p>Carolina gave up 5 goals in the 2nd period and went on to lose to the Avalanche 6-4 in Denver. The Canes winning streak ends at 8 straight. The Hurricanes had a 2-0 lead on the strength of goals from Jack Drury and Jordan Martinook, but Cale Makar's second period shorthanded goal ignited a 5-goal outburst. It was the first shorthanded goal the Canes have allowed this year. 9 minutes and 34 seconds later, Mikko Rantanen scored the Avs' 5th of the period and Carolina never regained the lead. Martinook scored his second of the game early in the 3rd to get the Canes within a goal, but that was it for their scoring on the night. Martin Necas scored a 2nd period power play goal to extend his streak to 9 straight with at least 1 point. Necas has 20 points in that stretch and has 23 points (8g, 15a) in 13 games this season. Spencer Martin made 24 saves in his first start for the Hurricanes this year.</p>
