It was the first time in 50 years a foreign invader attacked Ontario, and, to date, the last time. When the Fenians crossed into Canada from the USA, they would find an under-trained and under-prepared Canadian militia and the defeat of the Canadians would be wiped from our history for 25 years. Nonetheless, the Battle of Ridgeway was an important moment for Canada.
