The first Treaty Indigenous MLA in the Manitoba Legislature, Elijah Harper made nationwide news when he was the lone 'no' vote in the Manitoba government when it came to the Meech Lake Accord. Since the Accord was negotiated without Indigenous input, Harper was instrumental in bringing it down.
