Sermon Summary: Luke 19:28–42 – "The King We Didn’t Expect"
In this passage, Jesus approaches Jerusalem, riding on a donkey—a clear fulfillment of the prophecy from Zechariah 9:9 about a humble king coming in peace. The crowds welcome Him joyfully, laying down cloaks and praising God, expecting a political Messiah who would liberate them from Roman rule.
But Jesus isn’t the kind of king they imagined. He comes not with military power, but with humility and a mission of peace and salvation. As He draws near the city, Jesus weeps over Jerusalem. He foresees the destruction to come because the people didn’t recognize “the time of [their] visitation”—the moment when God came near.
