In this Christmas message from Calvary Chapel Perry, Pastor Harley Doneburg guides us through the humble and extraordinary story of Jesus’ birth. Christmas is far more than tradition, decorations, or celebration—it is the arrival of the Savior, the eternal Word made flesh, who came to seek and save the lost. While the season can be busy, stressful, or lonely, Pastor Harley points us to the true gift of Christmas: Jesus Christ, who offers salvation, forgiveness, and hope.
Beginning with Luke 2, Pastor Harley paints a vivid picture of Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem—Mary, nine months pregnant, riding on a donkey, and giving birth in a crowded stable. He reminds us of the humility of Christ’s birth, the simplicity of the manger, and the ordinary shepherds who first heard the angelic announcement. Through this narrative, we see God’s incredible love: the King of the universe arriving not in luxury, but in reach of everyone, especially the lowly and marginalized.
Pastor Harley then highlights the mission of Jesus: He came not to condemn, but to save. Drawing from John 3 and Luke, we are reminded that Jesus’ birth points to His ultimate purpose—to take on our sin, to bring peace with God, and to invite all who are lost into a restored relationship with the Father. This teaching calls each of us to recognize our need, to receive Jesus personally, and to rest in the gift of His grace rather than our own efforts.
