Show Notes
In the 1970s, Chicanas at San Diego State University formed Teatro Chicana to challenge the patriarchy in the Chicano civil rights movement. Led by Felicitas Nuñez, Delia Ravelo, and Laura Garcia, they created powerful skits to amplify womens voices and demand respect. Their plays, like Chicana Goes to College, tackled issues of gender and class, performing in various settings and sparking important conversations. Their story is preserved in the memoir Teatro Chicana.
