Show Notes
On March 31, 1995, Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, the Queen of Tejano Music, was tragically shot and killed by Yolanda Saldívar, the manager of her fan club and clothing stores. The murder occurred after a confrontation at a Days Inn motel, following which Saldívar held a gun to her own head during a nine-hour standoff. Selenas music, which blended pop, cumbia, and regional sounds, had made her a crossover sensation, and her fans worldwide mourned her loss. Saldívar was sentenced to life in prison for first-degree murder, with her next parole hearing set for March 2030. Selenas legacy lives on through her posthumous album Dreaming of You, which topped the charts and cemented her place in music history.
