Birch Aquarium celebrates a groundbreaking achievement: successfully hatching, raising, and settling red octopus babies. These tiny creatures, once planktonic paralarvae, have grown into thumbnail-sized mini octopuses. The team, led by senior aquarist Maddy Tracewell, developed a unique upwelling system and nutrient-rich grass shrimp diet to aid their growth. This milestone opens doors for studying red octopuses and will soon allow the public to marvel at these intelligent creatures.
