BWI Daily: Predicting roster holes and NIL discussion on mailbag show

Blue White Illustrated senior editor Nate Bauer and host Thomas Frank Carr take questions from the audience for their weekly mailbag show. Today they discuss the name image and likeness questions submitted by message board members at bluewhiteillustrated.com. In this video, both questions deal with NIL. First, the duo is asked which unexpected Big Ten school might compete with Ohio State atop the Big Ten in terms of NIL money spent. Bauer suggests that Michigan State and head coach Mel Tucker as the team to keep an eye on. Next, T-Frank brings up Maryland as a school with possible ties to large donors that can make waves. From there, they discuss the current ruleless landscape of college football with NIL. The viewer wants to know what conference or governing body can pass rules to reign the spending and even the playing field for each school. Both men agree that the US Congress will have to step in and make a ruling about the situation. If they were to do that, it would likely lead to an NFL-like model in college sports, complete with a labor union and a salary cap. The only way around the issue would be through anti-trust laws and legislation.
