She has 15 years experience in a variety of nursing roles and offers a holistic approach to health through Pilates, yoga, fitness, personal training, and Reiki. Her own personal journey includes a recent ADHD diagnosis and informs my empathetic and tailored approach to supporting clients in finding their most authentic self and achieving balance and vitality. She focuses on guiding individuals towards a holistic approach to health and wellness. Her background is quite diverse. Episode 21 - Stephanie Kerr-Guest Stephanie is a speech and language therapist who works with children 0-4 who are non speaking or not speaking yet and their parents to support their communication. Stephanie specialises in giving parents access to the right information and support so they feel less overwhelmed. She primarily provides parent support so they feel less overwhelmed & more confident in their own skills and abilities to support their child's communication. In this episode Stephanie shares her journey of starting her business when she became a mum when she started to recognise the reality of managing motherhood and recognising that what she had been asking parents to do versus what she could actually do was two very different things and thereby she set up her private practice. Steph shares her learning curves and thoughts that recognising she was a great therapist but needed support to build her business. She shares how she wishes she had started years ago but was held back because she was worried about all the different aspects of running a business but overcame this to just get started. We talk about how we can get distracted through branding and what we call our business and how people come to you not because of your name but because they want to work with you. We talk about the need to develop connect with people and build trust. Episode 20 - Harriet Beeson Harriet is a sleep coach and the founder of the Wee Sleep Coach. The Wee Sleep Coach is an infant sleep coach which means she work 1:1 with parents to understand what is going on with their baby or toddler's sleep. This can be anything from waking 10 times a night, parents ready to have their own bed back but not sure how to break the habit. Working with the parents I'll create a personalised plan then where I really shine is working with the parents for 3 weeks to coach them through the changes they are making so they are left empowered knowing that they know what to do for their child. In this episode Harriet shares how she moved from working in the corporate sector to working as a sleep coach following the birth of her son and understanding the impact of sleep and work. Episode 19 - Jan McKay Jan is a a psychological therapist in the NHS, working with young people and families and by night a Chakradance facilitator and reiki master. She’s also a mum to twins with support from her very tired husband, and their dog - Ted. She founded Soul Rhythms in January 2024, and things still feel very new. Her current focus is delivering live Chakradance classes and workshops, with plans to roll out online programmes for those that can’t attend in person. She also plans to develop the Reiki side of things in time, to incorporate healing sessions, group work and training. In this episode we discuss what Chakradance is, the importance of sharing one thing at one time, her journey from NHS and traditional therapy to energy work and the difference between working for the NHS and being self employment and how she went from a queue of people waiting to be seen to marketing. Episode 17 - Kamila Sokolowski Kamila set up her business Harmonia Support in 2017 and the main focus is supporting women mentally and physically during the life transitions. She offers counselling sessions, doula support, Reiki and supporting women during their Mind&Body transitions like Birth or Menopause. She offers Walk & Talk where she uses the natural body movement and Mother Nature to support the process and healing as well as sea swim, beach art and meditation as a part of the sessions. She’s passionate about supporting women during their transitions like Pregnancy/birth and the Menopause where she offers a much more in depth approach. Episode 16 - Nicola Currie Nicola is the owner of two businesses. For the last 16 years, she has been running a successful counselling private practice (Counselling with Nicola) from her home in East Lothian, Scotland. A year ago, she set up another business where she trains and supports other counsellors to set up their private practice. She delivers training to student counsellors who are about to qualify to support them in setting up their counselling service. She has delivered training at universities and also on online platforms. During the time she has been delivering these lectures and creating a training course which you can download and work through the training in their own time from her website. In this episode we speak about collaboration over competition and how important it is. She shares how she got into counselling and moving from supporting a charity to training to be a counsellor and her journey there and then moving into supporting other counsellors. Episode 15 - Kari Olsen-Porthouse
Episode 15 - Kari Olsen-Porthouse Kari is a community and workplace choir director who spreads joy, happiness and confidence to people through singing. She started the biggest choir in 2018 - West Bridgford which has 130 singers. She arranges pop songs in 3/4 part harmony which she teaches by ear aiming to make her groups accessible to all. She now has expanded into 4 community choirs (East Leake and Ruddington) and another mens singing group to launch in September. The workshop aspect of her business translates brilliantly to workplaces. Well-being and positive mental health activities are now being thought of much more and she can help. Last year with her business partner Rich, they launched kari-oke nights in a local bar. 4 songs in one night with a live band and they now have their first corporate booking for this in the diary. Singing is inclusive which means it can reach a large group of people. The benefits include improved wellbeing and connection between people. This is great for communities including workplaces. This episode is by far the most high-energy recording to date. Kari shares all the different tangents of her business from running groups, corporate kari-oke, men’s workshops, vocal coaching and also coaching other choir leaders. She shares her business model ensuring sustainability and stability and how the best ideas comes from rest and stopping. We speak about moving in to flow and allowing rather than pushing and leveraging networks and moving into corporate workspace including getting a booking with John Lewis. She speaks about how music has given people a little pocket of joy and how it’s supported people with social anxiety and supporting them to be more confident, find their voice and so much more including pulling people together. She shares how she started to develop her mens singing group which spans ages 30 to 80 which starts in September. This episode is such an uplifting episode about how something as simple as singing builds community and support and you can hear how Kari’s passion comes through very strongly. EEpisode 10 - Gareth Jones Gareth Jones is a yoga instructor living in Musselburgh, Scotland. Gareth uses yogic techniques to help him cope with the turbulence of everyday life. He teaches a movement form of Yoga called Vinyasa, which Is dynamic in nature and joins each posture with the next via the breath. He also imbues his practices with a restorative nature, as he feels it’s important to have both modalities catered for in such a hectic world. He specialises in pranayama techniques and breathing practices and teaches in person classes, 1-1’s, and have an online library of classes and has recently set up a men’s mental health group and has to date planted over 1085 trees. This was a beautiful conversation with Gareth. We discuss Gareth’s journey into yoga and how mental health and ADHD were part of his journey. We speak about inclusion and some of the issues around this and how to achieve full accessibility and inclusion. He shares his programmes and how he’s developed them and why including his new men’s mental health. As Gareth has grown his business, he’s also grown his activism and contribution to society and he describes. We discuss how our passion can often overwhelm us and how to move from overwhelm, procrastination, panic and freeze into strategy and CEO energy and focus. Zentangle is her main creative outlet. She’s married to Bob and lives in the Southside of Glasgow with their four-year-old daughter Isla. She set up her business recently as she wanted to introduce Zentangle to other people. Up to now, she has mainly been teaching in-person on a one-to-one basis and to groups and is moving to be offering classes online as well and plans to sell products featuring her designs on Etsy.
