We’ve talked a lot about gun violence on Burn the Boats, and how many politicians have ignored common sense solutions. Lax firearm regulations have made guns more accessible than ever, and as a result, communities are suffering. Thankfully, grassroots leaders are taking a stand. Today I wanted to share an episode of Living For We: Keep Ya Head Up. The show highlights how these people are taking matters into their own hands in order to make their streets safer. Guests include organizers, therapists, formerly incarcerated, and everyday people living in these communities who want to reduce gun violence, and tackle the systemic issues that play into it. David is a survivor of the Parkland shooting at Marjorie Stoneman Douglas in 2018. Following the attack, he and his classmates founded March for Our Lives, an organization dedicated to ending gun violence in the U.S, and held the largest single day of protest against gun violence in history. Eugene Vindman is a former Army Colonel and prosecutor who is running to represent Virginia’s 7th district. There are attacks all throughout the country on Jews, on synagogues, and anti-Semitism has spiked. The extremist right, white supremacists, have found a voice, have been bolstered by him.
