Circling the Wagons: PFF’s Cam Mellor discusses Bills draft needs, trade partners and "boom or bust" prospects
In this episode, talk to Cam Mellor (@PFF_Cam), Senior Content Manager for Pro Football Focus and oversees all social media accounts (including the @PFF_Bills account) about why he liked the offensive additions in Free Agency especially John Brown, Cole Beasley and Frank Gore. Then we discuss the Bills biggest positional needs headed into the NFL Draft including the controversial topic of "Elite" Tight Ends and "Elite" Wide Receivers. We then switch the discussion into the NFL Draft and which teams drafting after the Bills that have a need at QB that may try to trade up for the #9 pick. Cam also discusses his article about the Top 5 Boom or Bust Prospects in this year's Draft and we go over the three players that are constantly mocked to the Bills as of late-- Mississippi State DE Montez Sweat, Michigan DE Rashan Gary, and Ole Miss WR D.K. Metcalf. We also discuss where PFF Grades come from, the amount of data points on a given play, and do they take into account poor coaching or poor play calling? Go Bills! Additional Topics/Players Discussed Include: Wins Above Replacement (WAR), the need for CB over WR, Tyler Kroft, Rob Gronkowski, Zach Ertz & Rob Gronkowski, Zay Jones, Dwayne Haskins, Denver Broncos, Washington Redskins, New York Giants, NFL Combine, John Ross, Myles Garrett, Zac Robinson, Football Analytics, Money Ball, Quinton Spain, 2020 Salary cap space. Q&A: NFL Draft crush, pick trades, offensive line, short wide receivers, and more
On this week's episode, we start by discussing our 2019 NFL Draft crush. We continue by addressing the wide receiver group, both in depth and in height (really). Then we chat a bit about the offensive line, and discuss trading up or down in the first round. It's a fun conversation you'll want to hear. Circling the Wagons: Mock Drafts, Rigged Twitter Fan Polls, and Positions NOT to Draft at #9
EIn this episode, we open up with a quick thanks for the kind thoughts for a new addition to the Bills Mafia. After that, we discuss some news including the recent signing of E.J. Gaines and why we like it, the retirement of Rob Gronkowski and how Gronk will always be a member of the "Piece of Garbage" Club because of his defenseless hit on Tre White in 2017. We also discuss the very controversial Twitter Poll of the "Best Fanbase" by the NFL on Fox with a Tennessee Titans fan buying 20,000 Twitter poll votes for $660.00 to beat Bills fans in the last minutes, and how idiotic (and "SAD!") that is. We go over other things we'd rather spend $660.00 on and the amazing work of Bills Mafia to donate to the Nashville Children's Alliance as a response (thanks to @SoCalBillsMafia for the Circling the Wagons Mix). We do our "This Week in Bills History" segment with trivia, and then dive into a bunch of Mock Drafts, courtesy of Mock Draft Watch 6.0, and discuss which players have been mocked to the Bills and which of those players have had a Pre-Draft visit scheduled with the team. And finally, our Question of the Day from a listener "What position would you NOT want to see the Bills take with the 9th overall pick in the Draft?" Go Bills! Additional Topics Include: Chinese click farms, trips to the hospital before giving birth, collusion, Donald Trump Twitter articulation, Drafting a QB every round of the Draft, Drafting a QB each year in the Draft, and Drafting a WR each year in the Draft when you have your Franchise QB. Q&A: Trading up in 2019 NFL Draft, Day 2/3 prospects, Isaiah McKenzie's role moving forward
If the Buffalo Bills trade up in the 2019 NFL Draft, who would they be targeting? A speculation from the Associated Press started a big conversation this week. Other questions we tackle are about Day 2 and Day 3 prospects who fit the Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane mold, whether Buffalo should add a linebacker, the role of Isaiah McKenzie now that Andre Roberts is in town, whether or not Buffalo should add a late QB in the draft, plus a very exciting announcement! Q&A: Bills roster holes, 2019 NFL Draft priorities, wide receiver talk
We answer questions this week on the remaining holes the Buffalo Bills have following the initial weeks of free agency. We also look ahead to the top of the 2019 NFL Draft, discuss the possibility of trading down, and take a closer look at the wide receiver position. Buffalo signed a bunch of short receivers, says one tweeter, so how are they going to get open? Another question on WRs asks why the Bills don't pursue former Buffalo receiver Chris Hogan and there's an answer you probably don't expect. ECam Newton is on a sex strike to make his mind stronger. Take it from us Cam, it doesn’t work. Cole Beasley, Mitch Morse, John Brown or Frank Gore? 2. Now that Gronk has retired from the Patriots, who poses the biggest threat to the Bills, the Patriots or the Jets (Miami left out of consideration because, you know...). Circling the Wagons: We Take the Wonderlic Test
EIn this episode, we take the Wonderlic Test, the NFL Equivalent of an IQ test taken each year by hundreds of Draft Prospects at the Scouting Combine. The Wonderlic was originally created in 1936 by E. F. Wonderlic. The Wonderlic Personnel Test was the first short-form cognitive abilities test in the areas of math, vocabulary, and reasoning. It is a popular group intelligence test used to assess the aptitude of prospective employees and applicants for learning and problem-solving in a range of occupations. The Wonderlic is available in 12 different languages and is often used in college, entry level jobs, and team-making efforts. It consists of 50 multiple choice questions to be answered in 12 minutes. We describe the test in detail, take the test, discuss our results afterwards (and which of our scores relate to famous NFL players and occupational median scores), things we would've done differently, and if we feel that it is an accurate assessment of a person's intelligence or not. We also discuss the Wonderlic Test scores of all of last year's Quarterback Draft Class: Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold and Josh Rosen. Take a sample 50 Question, 12 minute Wonderlic Test here and let us know your results! See if you're smarter than all 3 of us before you listen to the podcast. Think you can score a 50? Q&A: Buffalo Bills free agency aftermath, offensive line depth chart, salary cap space
In this week's episode, we tackle questions relating to the crop of Buffalo Bills free agents. What is the Bills' salary cap space following the first round of free agent signings and what do the contracts look like? We also look at the depth charts on the offensive line, where five new players will be vying for spots. The wide receiver room looks a lot different, too. We sneak a quick look at the 2019 NFL Draft plans and how free agency informed the planning for the draft strategy. Circling the Wagons: 2019 Free Agency Continues! Bills sign WR Brown, WR Beasley, OL Nsekhe, OL Feliciano, KR Roberts
In this episode, we open up with Brandon Beane's press conference statement defending the Buffalo Bills Franchise and the City of Buffalo along with praise of the Bills' Free Agency acquisitions from Mike Garafolo of NFL Network. After that, we discuss the second wave of Free Agent signings, where the Bills have officially signed ex-Ravens/Cardinals speedster WR John Brown, ex-Cowboys slot WR Cole Beasley, Ex-Redskins OL Ty Nsekhe, ex-Raiders OL Jon Feliciano, and ex-Jets WR/KR Andre Roberts. We give our thoughts on each signing, general thoughts on the Bills' front office and Beane's "judicious" contracts, Cole Beasley's snarky Tweet to a Cowboys fan, Anthony Barr and Matt Paradis snuffing the New York Jets by not signing there and why we aren't afraid of the Le'Veon Bell signing. It's been a fun week! Go Bills! Additional Topics Include: Having a "Net Positive" of Free Agents by not losing any key players to Free Agency, the scarcity of true #1 WRs in the NFL, Tyrell Williams signing with the Oakland Raiders, Marv Levy signing Langston Walker, Derrick Dockery & Melvin Fowler, the Odell Beckham Jr. trade to the Browns, the Giants and GM Dave Gettleman are such a mess that maybe Beane was the driving factor of success in that franchise, and OT Daryl Williams signing a 1-year contract with the Carolina Panthers. We discuss the national praise for the crop and break down all eight: OC Mitch Morse, RB Frank Gore, WR Cole Beasley. WR John Brown, CB Kevin Johnson, OG Jon Feliciano, OT Ty Nsehka, and TE Tyler Kroft. We also discussed the potential trades for WR Antonio Brown and Odell Beckham, Jr. It's an episode you don't want to miss. We give our thoughts on each signing, which positions the Bills still need to address via Free Agency, and whether the Bills would/should go after a WR like Odell Beckham Jr. with the recent attempt to acquire Antonio Brown. It's one of the most exciting times of the year as a Buffalo Bills fan (or just a football fan)! Go Bills! Please leave us a review on Apple Podcasts (iTunes) and tell a friend about us. We should all be like Kyle. Oh yeah, and there was this Bills/Dolphins game that also happened! We recap the game, like we normally do every Sunday, and give our Wall of Famers, Wall of Shamers, Stats of the Game, Plays of the Game that stood out to us, and add Kiko Alonso to the Piece of Crap Club (deservedly so). Circling the Wagons: Buffalo Bills DE Mike Love Interview(s)
EIn this Bonus Podcast, we discuss the release of Kelvin Benjamin making way for younger guys from the Practice Squad to make an impact in the last 4 weeks of the regular season. One of those players is Rookie DE Mike Love, who just became part of the Buffalo Bills 53 man roster. Sidenote: Have you ever noticed that some of the most compelling parts of Sports is the stories behind the athletes? Where they come from, who they are, and what they've overcome? Bills DE Mike Love (6'-3" 255lbs) has that kind of a compelling story. In these two interviews (one in the middle of OTAs, and one before the fourth and final preseason game), we talk a lot about Mike's background. His life follows a similar storyline to the movie "The Blind Side", without all of the Hollywood script-editing. He came from a humble background-- a single mother with 4 young boys to take care of, but no authority to keep him line. He created a friendship with his friend Dalton Martinez, saw his family structure and knew that if he could be a part of something like that, he might not go down the wrong path. With his mother's permission, he moved in with the Martinez family, got his grades up, made Honor Roll, played well in high school football and had multiple scholarship offers from Division 1 colleges. In college at USF, he overcame injuries (surgeries on both knees and his foot), got his Master's Degree at USF, and went undrafted. With the support of both of his families, he's had to work hard to get to this point in his career, and after our discussions, it's not difficult to see why he's gotten the opportunity that he has this season... that few ever get. He also discusses his skillset as a Defensive End, the Bills coaching and personnel staff, the "Playoff-Caliber" Culture and Respecting the Process in the locker room, what a day is like as a Bills player, what other players have told him about the Bills Mafia, and talks a little about some guys on the team like Josh Allen. He's an easy guy to root for, and we hope you will all be looking for him Sunday and in the future! Go Bills!
